So far he’s given every R candidate a chance to appear ‘moderate’ on women’s issues by repudiating Akin’s remarks- as he did.

Being ‘against rape’ is the new ‘women’s issues’standard...

Akin said an amazingly stupid thing which the Democrats can use to tar all of their opponents, including Romney/Ryan, all the way to November. The thing I hear most about him now that he’s hit the national stage is, “That guy gives me the creeps.”

He HAS to go.

As Rush said we need to take the Senate, hold onto the House and take the Presidency in order to save this country. Mr. Akin needs to think of the saving of this country versus his own ambitions.

Just for kicks, an experiment if you will, I’d like to see him stay in. Let’s see what he does.

Might be a loss, but those who wouldn’t vote for him for this reason probably wouldn’t vote for him for other reasons, too.

Not that he couldn’t have been a little more adroit.

This is a seat, we should win be default, and since he’s lost virtually all financial support, it is likely a hold. That means we have to flip at least 4 other seats (assuming Brown is a hold in MA, and by some miracle do not lose Maine, which is likely a lost seat). Besides NE, this should be our easiest pickup.

The odds of getting the Senate are decent if we lose MO, but the odds dropped significantly.

So far, his refusal to drop out of the race makes him appear like a selfish, self-centered SOB.

Akin looks like tales from the crypt cryptkeeper. He’s an unattractive old worn out candidate. no sane woman would want this man representing them.

More wussy hand wringing.

Did Obama quit over “you didn’t build that”? Did he over the Biden gaffs?.

Are any Democrats in a 24/7 cry-a-thin at the DU over that stuff?

Will you people grow grows frigging pair, or are you just conservative because it makes you feel tough?

This is what the race for the Senate currently looks like. We need a net gain of four seats to win the Senate. we may very well lose ME and MA, and if we do, we would need to pick up six seats which are now held by Democrats. MO was strongly counted on to be one of those six seats. Without it, the climb greatly steepens and we'd have to take two of three from VA, OH, and FL. Races in those three states are Lean Dem to Toss Up at this time.

When I redo this chart, I will have to knock MO down a notch or two, unfortunately, if Akin refuses to leave. The column on the right indicates whether a GOP win would be a Hold or a Gain.

8/19/12 Race for the U.S. Senate Ranked Roughly From Most to Least Likely GOP Win

State

Republican Candidate Democrat/IND Candidate Hold OR Gain
NE* Debra Fischer Bob Kerrey GAIN
AZ* Primary 8/28/12 (Jeff Flake#)   HOLD
IN* Richard Mourdock Joe Donnelly HOLD
MO Todd Akin Claire McCaskill+ GAIN
WI* Tommy Thompson Tammy Baldwin GAIN
NV Dean Heller+ Shelley Berkley HOLD
ND* Rick Berg Heidi Heitcamp GAIN
MT Denny Rehberg Jon Tester* GAIN
MA Scott Brown+ Elizabeth Warren HOLD
VA* George Allen Tim Kaine GAIN
OH Josh Mandel Sherrod Brown+ GAIN
FL Connie Mack Bill Nelson+ GAIN
MI Pete Hoekstra Debbie Stabenow+ GAIN
NM* Heather Wilson Martin Heinrich GAIN
NJ Joe Kyrillos Bob Menendez+ GAIN
PA Tom Smith Bob Casey+ GAIN
HI* Linda Lingle Mazie Hirono GAIN
WV John Raese Joe Manchin+ GAIN
CT* Linda McMahon Chris Murphy GAIN
ME* Charles Summers Angus King (Ind.) HOLD
WA Michael Baumgartner Maria Cantwell+ GAIN

Do we have to risk the loss of the Senate and then the country because of this idiot? It seems so. Missouri was primed to turn out the Democrat and this probably ruins the chances of a Republican winning.

He shouldn’t be allowed in a public office that considers any issue larger than the budget of a township sewer system.

How dost he hurt us? Let us count the ways:

- Gave new oxygen to the “Republican War on Wymmyn” meme;

- Filled up the Leftist Media’s news cycles with something OTHER than “keeping up the skeer” on the Kenyan, allowing them to dominate the message (again);

- Gave the Leftists a shipping container full of “guilt-by-association” hand grenades to lob at any pro-life candidate;

- Gave the Left a poster-boy for right-wing misogyny that will set back the pro-life forces at least a generation, if not more;

- Reaffirmed in the minds of the American-Idol voters that the GOP is the Party Of Hate, and threw regiments of undecided voters firmly into the Leftist camp...

... Don’t worry, I’ll come up with more, because this will be the Gift That Keeps On Giving for the Left.

The GOP could easily loose the MO and MA Senate seat, most of the good work done in WI, any chance of taking Colorado, Iowa and Nevada.

Thus we loose a gimmie at taking control of the Senate, give the election to Obummer and Obamacare and Amnesty become law of the land.

This is Huckabee playing politics yet again way over his pay grade.

The GOP Establishment would have you believe that defending the unborn is political “loser”...but then again, the GOP Establishment would rather Obama be re-elected than have genuine conservatives attain power.

At this point I suspect the GOP is doing more damage by clinging to the issue rather than letting it die on its own.

Let the guy stand or fall on his own but making it a national issue makes it a far riskier game for the GOP as a whole.

Someone like Rove needs to take him aside,quietly,and do what Mexican drug lords do with gov't officials...offer him "silver or lead"."Silver" meaning a cushy gig of some sort."Lead" meaning "we'll bury you so deep that a bulldozer won't be able to find you".

Of course "bury" is used symbolically...not literally.
