We must give Todd Akin credit for something. He's accomplished what some wondered could ever be done in this election cycle: He's united the GOP.
The trouble with that idea is that Akin has to drop out to be replaced. Then you have to deal with all the folks that are upset with the national party for trying to tell them what to do.
He is an ass-a selfish ass.
Unite? Even that is an EPIC FAIL. Just read the comments on the Akin threads here!
Akin and Akin sympathizers just don’t get it. Nobody is disgusted with this clown for “discussing abortion and rape” or holding a firmly pro-life position. We are disgusted because he did it in the most politically inept, rhetorically indefensible, scientifically illiterate way possible. People who are super pro-life should be the angriest of all.
I heard a Republican talking head saying this morn that Akin has said that he wants to see where his support if from conservatives and that if he does not have their support and they do not contribute to his campaign he might reconsider. I hope he reaches that conclusion well before Sept 25 so he can be replaced with a electable conservative and we can repair the damage he has done.
I agree.
I think it’s refreshing that a Republican did not step down for once. Now lets get back to removing this imposter before he gets another term and finishes up destroying this country for good.
I think Akin is incredibly selfish. Even if the probability is much less than 50% that his stupid comment costs him the election, a person who has the best interest of his party and his beliefs in mind would step down immediately.
And what has everyone been talking about over the past couple of days BECAUSE of Akin’s stupidity/selfishness? Abortion and how the democrats are trying to tie all pubbies to Akin’s comment.
I am hoping that the silver lining is that the immediate and forceful response by GOPe, Palin, Rush and every other establishment pubbie will serve to convince some women on the fence that Republicans in general will do the right thing by women. This in spite of the despicable attempt by the Stephanie Cutters of the world to maintain that Akin’s comment is representative of all conservative’s beliefs.
Hahaha.... I think I wrote my tag line several hours before your thread.
When a douche bag is thrown into the middl of a crowd, you can imagine what the crowd will be talking about for weeks and months after the event... that is what this idiot Akin has done, he has made himself the center attention, his issues are now the most important issues to talk about, his candidacy is all that matters... dumb ass Akin...
A repeat of Pat Buchanan 1992, not that what Buchanan said was particularly wrong, but there is a time and place for everything, and that wasn’t the time nor the place.
Like it or not, Akin is the candidate. 10 weeks to go. Who the hell can ramp up a US Senate campaign in that time span?
Now that’s funny- whatever one feels Akin’s chances are now.
And then there are those other minor issues like unemployment, the $16 trillion national debt, and trillion dollar deficits for the past four years that have given us more debt in Obama's four years than Bush's eight. If you believe the MSM and the Dems, the election will revolve around a verbal gaffe and an unaccepted apology versus real issues that affect real people in real life.
Don't forget that nasty plank in the GOP platform that says all abortion is wrong including in cases of rape and incest. That hurts the GOP brand as well following your logic.
How offensive was Akin's comment on rape? He should have used the word forcible instead of legitimate. He and Paul Ryan co-sponsored a bill that made that distinction, i.e., forcible rape (an FBI term) and other kinds of rape like statutory rape between two consensual partners.
Should the GOP also distance itself from Akins 97.24 lifetime ACU rating? Or his A+ rating from NumbersUSA on immigration issues? The Dems "War on Women" attacks started long before Akin. Ask Rush Limbaugh who had to apologize for some remarks he made about Sandra Fluke who will speak at the Dem Convention.
The GOP Establishment was never supportive of Akin and his conservatism. They united because it gave them a pretext to remove Akin who they thought was not the best candidate. Look who endorsed Akin: Steve King, Michele Bachmann, Phyyllis Schafly, Jeb Hensarling, Pete Sessions, Jim Jordan. Compare that to the endorsements of Brunner: Freedom Works, Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Soybean Assn, Tom Coburn, and Ron Johnson. The voters chose Akin--217,000 of them or over 36% of the vote.
EXACTLY... I can’t hardly put into words my disgust for the way he did what he did and then to say “what, WHAT, I misspoke one word?” he has single handedly sucked all the oxygen out of the room and still his attitude is “what, WHAT?”
I’ve already informed my candidates that if they’re dumb enough to weigh in on the issue they can go without my vote.
Akin is the republican party version of Joe Biden
What is the big lemming-stampede to get Mr. Akin out of the Missouri Senate race? I do NOT see anything wrong in his assertion that the child, conceived because of rape, does NOT deserve the death penalty of abortion. The child is innocent.
Awesome. By the way, neither will Claire McCaskill, as a result of the gargantuan blunder by Akin.
