Rep. Steve King defends Akin as a 'strong Christian man'

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) bucked others in his party on Tuesday, defending Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) as a "strong Christian man with a wonderful family."

Akin has faced a firestorm of criticism from fellow Republicans, who have ripped his recent comments that women rarely get pregnant from "legitimate rape," with a number of them, including Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus and National Republican Senatorial Committee Chairman John Cornyn (Texas), strongly suggesting Akin should drop out of the race for Missouri's Senate seat. Akin has so far refused to exit the race.

But King, a close friend and ally of Akin's who campaigned for him during the primary, stood by Akin's side. He told a local television station that he didn't want to give his thoughts on Akin's specific remark because he hadn't heard it in context, but attacked those who were blasting Akin as focused on "petty personal attacks."

"I think this election should be about how did Todd Akin vote and what did he vote for and what did he stand for and in this case, I'm seeing the same thing, petty personal attacks substituting for strong policy," he said.

The RNC and NRSC did support Akin before two days ago.

Gee, I suppose we should be so thankful.

BTW, they don't select candidates to support in primaries.

As for McCaskill, the rats don't think conservatism wins. Akin is going to beat McCaskill despite the surrender monkeys at this thread.

I have C-Span audio on in the background.

Plugs Biden is slinging the Marxist hash at a downtown Detroit high school. It is another sign of their desperation.

The Akin non-controversy will flame out soon in Missouri and he will win.

Okay, I have to admit that I had been joining the chorus of those saying Akin should withdraw, but I’m starting to reconsider that now. Hopefully, Akin (and everyone for that matter) can move the discussion off this issue and back onto the genuinely important issues of this election cycle.

Akin has already lost. Have you ever heard of the term "first impressions are most important", and his first impression to statewide Missouri voters is one of a self-righteous, pompous, hubristic oaf.

Great first impression there Tood.
