Hurricane Isaac

Posted on 08/26/2012 8:12:04 AM PDT by wolfman23601

NHC has been slow to adjust their forecast, but models in the last 24week hours have been indicating a possible Cat 3 hitting New Orleans. While dems have been rooting for the Tampa landfall to ruin our convention, a NO landfall catastrophe with Jindal running circles around 0, while 0 is playing politics during the aftermath... maybe it is their convention that gets ruined. I am certainly not rooting for a disaster, but it would certainly be ironic.

Katrina didn’t really hit New Orleans, as you said, the flooding was from a levee break. But it hit eastern Louisiana and the coast of Mississippi very, very hard. Entire towns were smashed like children’s toys.

Yep, and because of what was happening in NO, Miss. never got the coverage it deserved.

No cable down our way north of Camdenton. There was cable but about a year ago, the local utility crew removed the wire (?)...

We are in a cove at the 2 MM of the Big N. The boats can be well heard from our front step.

I’m thinking this would be a good day to stay off the lake and listen to KRMS coverage.

My understanding was that a direct hit on New Orleans would actually have been preferable to the storm being off to the East a bit.

There are flights directly to Havana from JFK every Friday. Flights from Miami several times a week.

This may be Obama’s Katrina. Will he fare better than Bush? I doubt it. It may be the final straw on the back of the Obama Campaign.

Obama has a long history of rewarding his supporters & ignoring everybody else. Since LA is likely to vote Romney in November, he has no political reason to help the recovery.

I expect him to foul up the hurricane recovery just as he does everything. That could enrage enough voters to sink his reelection chances.

Again, journalists, academics, congressmen, senators, mayors, governors, religious groups go to Cuba from the US all the time. There are weekly nonstop flights from JFK. Several flights a week from Miami.

When Katrina made landfall in 2005, my daughter and then-son-in-law lived in Diamondhead, Mississippi, in southwestern Hancock County. Their house was five miles inland, and 25 feet above sea level. They evacuated and upon return, discovered there had been six feet of water in their house. They lost everything; one of their neighbors (Brett Farve’s mother) refused to evacuate and had to ride out the storm in her attic.

To this day, most people don’t understand the devastation that Mississippi suffered during Katrina. Had Blanco and Nagin evacuated New Orleans in a timely manner, the loss of life in that city would have been negligible. Mississippi DID evacuate, and more than 200 of its citizens still died.

I’m guessing that Bobby Jindal and Phil Bryant (governor of Mississippi) will have mandatory evacuations in place by tomorrow morning, at the latest. Then, watch Obama try to take credit for the “textbook” response to Hurricane Isaac.

BTW, my daughter and husband split up about a year later, in part because of the stress from Katrina.

“Remember Jesse Jackson claimed Bush blew up the levees in NO...”

I don’t remember Je$$e saying that but Rev Louie sure said it. :-)

Obama has a big advantage over Bush. This time, Louisiana is under the leadership of Bobby Jindal, and not the incompetent Kathleen Blanco. Jindal will have evacuation orders up by daybreak Monday, and most of New Orleans (along with the southeastern coastal parishes) will be empty by the time the storm arrives.

Yeah, I know “Chocolate City” nagin is still on the job, but he’ll adopt the same position as Obama—let Bobby Jindal make the tough calls and do all the heavy lifting, then jump in front of the first TV camera to take credit when everything “goes right.”

“Yeah, I know “Chocolate City” nagin is still on the job,”

Nagin is no longer the mayor of NO. He is also under investigation for fraud.

Karina hit well east of New Orleans. As bad as it was, it could have been much, much worse.

Coverage of this thing is pathetic.

Has it been too long since we’ve had one?

The MSM is making it to be worse than the zombie apocalypse.

Hurricane Irene made landfall on the Outer Banks of North Carolina one year ago tomorrow, August 27.

Unless things have changed drastically since I left in 1997, it was possible for civilians to fly to either Cancun or Nassau and get a short flight into Havana from there. The Cuban immigration people would give you a temporary visa to visit The Workers’ Paradise. The Cubans don’t care if Yanquis come or not as long as they bring in wads o’ dead presidents.

No cable? That’s just wrong. Even over here in SB we have cable and good well water, LOL.

We are soon to steal your grocery store as well. You’re going to have to go all the way to 54 for your big grocery day.
