AMD has updated its price pages pulling down the price on the full range of Llano APUs, Phenom II K10 parts and Bulldozer FX-Series CPUs. Although some price cuts are minor some parts got a price cut of up to 20 percent.

The most significant price cut includes the now quite old Phenom II X4 955BE and 965BE CPUs that have dropped by 22.9 and 20.9 percent respectively. Price wise, the Phenom II 955 BE dropped from US $105 down to US $81 while the Pheom II X4 965BE dropped from US $115 down to US $91.

The price cuts include some AMD A-Series Llano APUs that dropped by up to 20 percent. The A6-3670K part dropped from US $100 to US $80, A8-3870K and A8-3850 dropped from US $115 and US $105 down to US $101 and US $91, respectively. The A-Series price cuts also include entry level A4-3300 and A4-3400 parts that went down from US $55 and US $59 to US $46 and US $48, respectively.

There are a couple of noticeable price drops in the FX-Series range as well, so the FX-6100 went down by 17 percent from US $135 down to US $112, the FX-6200 went down by 14.8 percent from US $155 down to US $132, while the flagship FX-8150 dropped by 10.7 percent from US $205 down to US $183.

There are a bunch of other price cuts across the entire range but mostly they are below 10 percent.

According to CPU-World, all these price cuts should be in effect as of today. You can check out the full price cut list over at CPU-World.com.

Whoa! I’ve been wanting to build an FX based machine. Looks like now is the time. Good news.

AMD had no choice. The Intel Sandy Bridge chips are eating AMD’s lunch. Still these chips might be a worthwhile upgrade for gamers, assuming their present motherboards can accept them (i.e. are AM3+).

I’ll have to check if my mobo will support one. It currently has an AMD Athlon 64 in it.

I’m still running an Athlon 64 as well. An old Athlon 64 4000+ OC’d to 2.8mhz. Socket 939. Single core. With Windows XP (still a great OS). But I play older games and all runs fine. I’d have to do a total gut-ectomy if I upgrade. So I can either stay with AMD or go over to the dark side. Depends on bang/buck.

Does AMD have an APU with graphic-core-next architecture yet?

I have only bought one PC with an AMD micro-processor, with not great results. For the few extra bucks, I go with Intel now. It’s worth it.

Most consumers do not build or upgrade their PCs on their own. They hold onto an old machine until they buy a new one.

That means that consumers will have to wait to see if any of the AMD price cuts will transfer, and how much, through to lower PC prices, or not.

Are you sure these have GCN? From this story it looks like Trinity is based on Northern Islands (4X VLIW) GPU instead of the new GCN architecture:

Careful...not all 7000 series are GCN (it’s weird this time).

Some of them are revs of the 4 wide VLIW, and as far as I can tell, only 79xx have the new architecture.

The A series APU's have a mix....at this point ,....I believe ONLY the A10 ("Trinity ") has the 7

I am trying to run down some detail....starting with this from Anandtech:

AMD's Graphics Core Next Preview: AMD's New GPU, Architected For Compute

AMD Radeon HD 7660G is in IGP in this Toshiba:

TOSHIBA Satellite S855D-S5256 Notebook AMD A-Series A10-4600M(2.30GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory DDR3 1600 750GB HDD 5400rpm BD Combo AMD Radeon HD 7660G

I know the Graphics in the A10 was improved....maybe I just assumed it was the latest that is in the 7000 series discreet cards.

When they make an APU with GCN (7970 type of GPU) I will be all over that.

I think the place for the APU's in is in the laptops...

Might interest in the A10 was the piledriver CPU....

I don't need a great GPU.
