“You should see some of the names the Pilgrims and Roundheads gave to their children.”
I love those names. What are they called “quality” names? Something like that.
Now, some are silly, like Cotton Mather. Who names their child after a fiber?
But Cotton’s relative (I forget how) Increase Mather, let’s face it, that’s a name!
Some seem ill-fated, like poor Chastity Bono (and maybe other girls named Chastity, at least I hope they stayed girls, even if they did not remain Chaste).
But many are wonderful. Honor is a great name (but you’ve got to have the right surname to go with it), Hope, Faith, Charity, and one of my faves Prudence.
Maybe others can think of more.
I like these names, I hope they’ll come back into style.
I knew a Loyal Walker.
Spirit?
My husband’s grandmother was named Providenza. I always thought that was a great name.
I grew up near a 300 year old cemetery and almost all the female names were a virtue.
I'm talking about names like Diewell Sykes, IfChristhadnotdiedfortheethouhadstbeendamned Barebones, Weakly Elkins, Nomerit Vynall, Humiliation Hinde, Buried Muschamp, Flydebate Smart.
