In the early 70’s, I worked for one of the TV networks. Satellites weren't in use in those days, and we got the west coast network feed by telephone company microwave. At 3 every afternoon, we'd record the incoming network news as it was aired from New York. A runner would be standing by, and he'd grab the tape and hotfoot it for LAX, where it'd be handed to the pilot of a United flight headed for Honolulu. That's how you got your 11pm network news every night.
