It's par for the course in Doctor Who for the hero himself to appear at unexpected times, but his latest companion seems to be making an attempt to upstage the Time Lord.

Jenna-Louise Coleman surprised fans of the BBC1 drama by popping up in the first episode of the new series – four months before her expected debut as the Doctor’s latest sidekick.

I got interested in Dr Who in a round-about way.

I never watched the original, because I lived in several areas that did not have PBS.

About a decade ago, I got interested in a SciFi series called Special Unit 2 — a special force that went after bad aliens. It was a comedy-drama.

Then I heard about Torchwood and that it, too, was good guys chasing bad aliens. I watched it. It made numerous references and sort of filled in a lot of info on Dr Who.

Thus, I started watching the ‘new’ Dr Who series with Christopher Eccleston. He was the Doctor for only about one season. Then came David Tennant and later Matt Smith.

I am hooked.

I also liked the Saturday morning children’s series, The Sarah Jane Adventures — which was also good gal chasing bad aliens. I didn’t realize at the time but Sarah Jane Smith [Elisabeth Sladen] was one of the companions in the original Doctor Who series.

Start with the Christopher Eccleston era. Many later episodes refer back to things/aliens/cultures/events in the original and earlier ‘new’ series episodes.

The Christmas specials are the best. Especially after Moffat took over. (He did the Christmas Carol & Lion Witch and Wardrobe take-offs).

I thought that was her, and was confused at the end of the episode, but then, there’s time travel, so...

Anyway, I loved the new episode. It had it all. Comedy, fun, mystery, pathos. Seeing all of those Daleks was so thrilling! And asking the Doctor for his help, too, was really cool (though, of course, you know the Daleks were playing him), and then their response to him at the end was tremendously satisfying! Moffet is a genius. I hope he can retain this level of story-telling.

I thought Elisabeth Sladen looked better in her show than she did from the 70s Dr. Who. Was sad to hear about her death.

I loved Special Unit 2. It's run shows up on TV about twice a year.

I tend to dip in and out. You’d be better off asking one of the harder-core fans here. I have only watched one or two episodes of Torchwood. It got tiresome very quickly.

Personally, I’m more looking forward to series X of ‘Red Dwarf’ coming out in October...

If you want to watch Torchwood, just watch it. Doctor Who doesnt factor into it that much except for Captain Jack and how he got to be immortal. I wholeheartedly recommend season 3 and 4 especially. I might need to watch 1 and 2 so I can see it all.

Where does that air? I saw a few episodes in Saudi Arabia on the Star network. Only caught a couple here on an indy station in Atlanta.

Cool, I liked her. While I liked Amy well enough (except for her almost-incessant yelling of “Doctor!”), I won’t miss Rory one bit.

Early October on Dave, although it should be available on the internet on http://watchseries.eu soon afterwards for those who don’t live in the UK...

I quickly became enamored of Eve Myles (and her lovely Welsh accent), and ended up watching the episodes of the first three seasons rapid-fire and often back to back, over the course of less than two weeks.

The first three seasons of Torchwood are free on Amazon Prime while the fourth has a small charge for viewing each episode, so I will probably end up waiting until I have gone through the free episodes of Dr. Who before jumping in to the fourth season.

I have been a Whovian for a couple of decades, I wish there was more of the real classic Whos available.

I saw the pemier and yes she is quite a fox with a perky gung ho attitude.

Have you checked Netflix? They have a lot of the old series available.
