Shahid Khan: The New Face Of The NFL And The American Dream
Forbes ^ | 9/5/12 | Brian Solomon

Posted on 09/06/2012 8:30:33 AM PDT by KingOfVagabonds

With sweat and smarts, Pakistan-born Shahid Khan built a $3.4 billion manufacturing juggernaut from the ruins of an Illinois auto parts maker. To celebrate, he just bought one of the worst teams in the NFL, with the pledge of a similar turnaround. Only in America, folks.

I grew up down the street from Shahid. I used to ride my bike inside his (quite large) house as it was being built, since it had some massive dirt jumps in it. Sorry Mr. Khan!

He could have traded for Tebow, which probably would have resulted in at least 10,000 new season ticket holders in Jax.

Can’t wait for the veiled cheerleaders yells of “LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA...!!!”

Given the blatant racism directed toward Mr. Khan by Jaguar “fans” following the announcement of his purchase of the team from the sainted Wayne Weaver (who, through the Jaguars Foundation, provided financial support to Planned Parenthood), I can see why he might not give a hoot what the locals think.

(Yes, I live in Jacksonville. Yes, I’m a long-suffering supporter of the Jaguars.)

With all due respect, you have no way of knowing that.

I’m guessing you’re a new Jets fan that used to be a Bronco’s fan correct?

But now they have Shahid Khan, who knows how to find the bright side in a dismal situation—and says he has a plan.

I didn't read the entire article, but I'd bet that plan involves moving vans heading to LA.

I have known several Pakistanis who were all very decent people. Far more interested in making money than waging the Jihad I must say. I think if you are from that country you are Muslim in the same way that if you’re Italian you’re Catholic. Never had any issues with them.

” plan involves moving vans heading to LA.”

I've lived in Jax for a lot longer than the Jags have been here and I've heard the “they're moving to LA” thing many times and I always ask the same question:

If LA is so desirable why isn't there a team there already and why can't LA keep a team there?

Being able to see potential in a company that’s distressed is what men of vision do....Kind of how Romney/Ryan see potential in this Country after what the current CEO Barry Obama has done.

The Jags aren’t moving. They’re not hurting in ticket sales.
The sad thing about this article is that it rightfully praises a good man - Khan - but the writer hasn’t done his research on Jacksonville.

And to the Jacksonville native, yes, there were some racist comments about Khan’s heritage. But every village has its idiots. If you live in Jax, and you’ve been to the games, you’ve seen everyone wearing the Khan mustaches. Fans love him.

The Jags tarp over nearly 10,000 seats to avoid blackout. They’re hurting in ticket sales.

“If LA is so desirable why isn’t there a team there already...”

Because the politicians in LA won’t bend over for the NFL the way they do in most cities.

“...and why can’t LA keep a team there?”

Because other cities WILL bend over for the NFL.

There were pro football teams in LA for longer than the Jags have been in existence. You might keep that in mind.

I believe that would have been true had the Jags drafted him last year. But getting Tebow wouldn't have the same effect. At best, they may get some extra fans for a few games until they figure out Tebow's not the answer.

Really.

If you have the money you should be able to buy what you want regardless of politics, race, origin, or religion.

That is what made America great.
