LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Christopher Boyd, a homeless Los Angeles man who handed out his resume alongside LA freeways, has been hired.

The 44-year-old is working for Jack The Roofer in Simi Valley for a week and then will work full time for JB Wholesale, a Los Angeles roofing and building supply company who works with Jack The Roofer.

Boyd was spotted along the freeways handing out flyers listing his skills ranging from marketing, property management, construction to professional driving.

“I’ve been all over LA,” Boyd said last month. “I got tired of going to interviews, going places and not getting hired.”

Boyd’s story went viral after a picture of his flyer was posted on Reddit.

In a world where so many are content to sit back and cash government checks, I really admire his persistence and his initiative.

All HR managers should be shot.

As a group they are some of the laziest people I've ever dealt with.

I was speaking to a middle-aged woman (who cannot get hired because she is a middle-aged woman, presumably) who told me that she was not hired for a job because she said "she can work anytime."

I was like, wtf? You mean to tell me they would've hired her if she said she can only work Tuesdays and Thursdays?

Don't blame the guy for going direct.

Lots of dishonest companies hold fake interviews just so they can say they interviewed x number of people but decided to hire Jane from the inside because she was the most qualified.

Lots of dishonest people hold fake interviews with companies who are hiring just so they can show they went through the process to keep their government check coming.

When I worked in Japan, companies were allowed to advertise the gender, age range and sometimes even nationality they were seeking along with the qualifications.

It prevented a lot of mutual time wasting fake interviews.

...Wow! As it should be. That takes me back.

So lazy they had to build software to do their jobs for them.

The criteria they follow sucks.

I acquired my present job by driving up and down roads with my resume and asking to see the boss. If I was told to see an HR person I inquired if the HR Lady (was good assumption) was more intelligent than the boss.

I absolutely agree. These companies waste your time when they really had no intention of hiring you. I don’t know what criteria they are looking for when they hire.

You have jump through all these hoops just to get an interview and then when you do they say they’ll be in touch which they never actually do.

Government-driven policies—from employer-provided healthcare to favored-class lawsuits—increase the costs and risks of hiring women and/or older people, and that just compounds their employment challenges.

A middle-aged woman gets a double whammy on it.

I went on about fifty of those before I caught on. I'm one of the most qualified experts in my industry with certifications. I got a letter back last May stating I was not going to be hired because I was under qualified. I was ready to drive the seventy miles back to the HR office and nuke them!

HR managers are the most useless POS layer of BS in any corporate bureaucracy.

They know absolutely nothing about the departments they are sent out to hire for and what makes for a good or bad candidate. Like an HR person is going to know why your network/contacts is going to be best suited for a sales job. I’m sure they’re going to be really well versed on why your previous job experience and education makes you a superior aeronautical engineer vs other candidates.

HR people are usually people with humanities degrees that know jack squat about anything of substance yet think they’re well qualified to judge anybody. Oh wait, I just described.... oh never mind.

The only thing HR personnel are good for are handing out corporate benefits and health insurance packets. Even in that regard they could be replaced by a monkey handing out something from the red box, blue box and yellow box to get a piece of fruit.

Most useless people in any organization.

HR Departments tend to be full of Affirmative Action hires.

FWIW, I've never visited a Boston Market to eat and never will.

The reason: When my kids were looking for their first job, they had a big banner out which said

Now Hiring, Immediate Interviews and Decision

I tried to explain to the girls that they really didn't mean it, but they insisted on trying. So I let them and they found out Dad was right. Nothing against Boston Market, really. Because so many companies do this. But Boston Market did it to my daughters.

Anyway, Chick Fil'A hired them not long after that experience and, then, their little sis, when she turned of age. Our Friday night dates consisted of going to Chick Fil'A to see our girls at work. They are grown up and gone now, but guess where we still eat regularly?

Age discrimination runs rampant. I'm in my fifties. My phone interviews all went terrific. Except! When they turned into face to face interviews I could immediately read their facial and body tells. (I sound young on the phone)

Experience doesn't mean crap to HR people. Their just looking for a body who will take minimum wage.

What's even worse is when you have to go through the company's website. I can only imagine how many applications and resumes they get, and usually there's no hiring manager to speak to.
