This Makes Up for a Lot of Sins [Google Star Trek Doodle]

Here at NRO, weve rightly criticized Google in the past for its doodles promoting gay marriage and featuring loathsome Communist Frida Kahlo, for instance, while ignoring Reagans 100th birthday and even Easter. But todays doodle makes up for at least some of that:
Theres even a little interactive story, if you pass the cursor over certain parts of the image. Though, contrary to this report, the story is not from The Man Trap, the first episode to air, 46 years ago tomorrow, but from Arena. (If this makes it past the censors, youll know Kathryns gone soft!)

It is kinda cute. Play with it. Go to the original for links.

It’s going to get some Trekkie criticism. For one, Kirk doesn’t pilot the ship. Sulu and Chekov should be sitting at the nav station.

The red letter should have been killed.

Famous Spock line from that episode: “If he has the time, Dr. If he has the time.”

I know. I kept expecting the red letter to die in a spectacular way and NOTHING!
Curse you Google and your liberal attitudes.

It probably is, but then it beams down to the planet with Kirk to face the Gorn. Once they deviated from the original storyline, I knew a Redshirt had to die soon.

Not too long ago I bought the complete set of TOS on bluray but I haven't gotten around to watching it yet.It features all the episodes as they were originally aired *and* the episodes with “improved” special effects spliced in.I wonder which type I'll watch...or will I watch both?
I must say I'm looking forward to see the Yeoman (can't recall her name) in "kinda" hi-def.

There you go!
I never watched Star Trek for social commentary, and I carry that same approach to my present day use of Google.
Always used to bug me that Kirk paid more attention to aliens than to Yeoman Rand. The academy obviously included training on sexual harassment ;-)
