This is a plan that the leader of Hezbollah, Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, mentioned in a Sy Hersh article back in 2007. A plan that involves the persistent metamorphosis of the region into mini states, and micro states among the various ethic and religious factions. A plan that is often attributed to Zbigniew Brzezinski (the intellectual godfather of this strategy). In 2007 Nasrallah told Seymour Hersh that the American plan was, the drawing of a new map for the region. Nasrallah believed that this stratagem would leave Israel surrounded, by a host of small and tranquil countries. He said that even the Saudi Kingdom would be involved.
I think the new map will look a lot more like a unified Caliphate, and a lot less like a bunch of squabbling nation states engaged in tribal warfare.
Set them One Against the Other.
Muslims apparently need to be on a killing spree to fulfill their religion’s mission. Let’s help them focus their energies on each other, leaving us alone as a result.
More likely they want one big Islamic Caliphate so they won’t have to deal with more than one “leader”
Never read headlines without glasses.
I thought the headline was: Breaking the Middle East Into Feces.
Weird, I thought it already was.
something needs to be done for the Christians in the mid-east to protect them from being exterminated by the Moslems in Egypt (10 million Christians in trouble there), Lebanon (what Christians still remain there after USA and France sold them out to the Islamicists), and there are some Christians yet in Syria and so forth.
Small little states could give the Christians a chance maybe...
Whether Israel or any other nation there would then be surrounded by small (correct) “tranquil” states remains to be seen. Many Moslems do not seem capable (or desirous) of living in “tranquil” states... Indeed, this primitive sickness (or whatever) is the scourge of the world in these times. Perhaps “aggressive” small states would be a better description...
If I was an Arab Christian, I’d relocate to Lebanon. The old militias from the Civil War are still around, albeit underground.
Shift the demographics back into the Christians favor, and tell the Muslims that Lebanon is theirs, they can have the rest of the region to ruin.
Well, I am surprsied this is coming from Nasrallah. Lebanon is small as it is. OK you want to make a Christian state in Mid East,I’d say get most of northern Lebanon and some of Syria. But this will never work — What’s ild nasrallah smoking anyway? Hezbollah Hash?
I guess I am not well read enough about this, but it never seemed to me that the ME WAS unified.
THAT’S why peacekeeping/peacemaking efforts of the world powers has always been essential to contain the many and age-old arguments there.
Of course when you have THE leader of THE most powerful national entity in the known universe ... (a power with long-standing commitment, an admirable record of responsibility, diplomatic traditions, etc.) casually abandoning their traditional role and THEN failing in the articulation of a new and different course all the people revert to type and begin (resume) murdering one another.
O has created the problem and has only himself to blame.
“I guess I am not well read enough about this, but it never seemed to me that the ME WAS unified.”
No, that’s pretty much the truth. Even the Ottoman Empire, which looks really impressive on maps, would be considered laughable by modern standards for governing.
Their control over North Africa and Arabia was essentially non-existent, other than the governors and local elites said nice things about the Sultan and sent him some taxes every now and then.
Nasrallah *is* Iran. He should be killed as soon as humanly possible, just as Ahmadinejad and all the mullahs.
Unfortunately, Iran is O’s closest ally.
