Being married to a Filipina, we occasionally check in on Philippine TV.

THIS girl floored us and as of now, she's in the final which I THINK is this weekend.

(Unless I've missed it somehow, or it's not posted to YouTube yet.)

Anyway .. we really enjoyed this fresh, young star.

I apologise ... there’s a lot of Tagalog spoken but the gist of her opening remarks is, “I want to show that you don’t have to be a sexy filipina to win X Factor, that just a plain ol’ girl from the sticks can win this thing” (paraphrased)

She’s very talented, but I wish that she’d pull her hair back to show her pretty face. The constant brushing her hair out of her eyes is distracting.

Wow. Wonderful voice and she’s really very cute too. Beautiful eyes. I like her funky vibe as well.

I can’t get past the first 10 seconds of the song. Can’t anyone just sing a dang song without trying to sound like Beyonce or Mariah Carey? When everyone and their mother does those silly little vocal fills instead of singing the straight melody, it’s just tired and boring.

She ever comes to America I’m gonna get rid of that dress and buy her a new wardrobe.

Then I’m going to make.the best small roll lumpia she’s ever had and treat her to a nice bit of flan caramelized just right.

And then when she thinks like can’t get any better I’ll take her for river boat ride, on The Seine, while she admires the 12 dozen white and red roses I carefully staged.and the best truffles from Reichart.

She will be in her glory and at the right moment I’ll cue the music and my rendition of Di Na Na Tuto.

What more could a girl want?

Well I’ll tell yuh:

Getting married at the most beautiful church in the world “Sacre Cour”.

Or we can dispense with all that nonsense since we know it will probably end in divorce and she keeps.my favorite car and my dog.

I say let’s not add any chaos in our lives and we just camp in at Ritz on Place Vendome.

Yeah, that sounds better and we’ll order room service the whole weekend and ask Cartier to bring her little something special like I dunno an Agroth necklace, pink gold of course and an 18k Tank Francaise. They can bring over as they are only a few down from the hotel.

I’ll still serenade with Di Na Na Tuto.

Yeah we’ll laugh, have fun and when the weekend is over we’ll part with smiles and hugs, wish each other well and hope we into each other one day soon.

She has readers in her ears and was probably a bit concious of it and didn’t want to show them.

Which one?

The second song was a speciel request from Charice .. a former child star herself

I liked KZ's presence and presentation.

The judges are very well known and respected Filipino singers and they were really taken with KZ's performance.

She's twenty, but has the attitude of a 15 year old ... quite common in the Philippines.

So in the old days performers had speakers in from of them so they could hear themselves in regards to the acoustics.

Readers allow you to more correctly match your voice to the music with right volume, intended effect, tempo and sometimes the words would show up on a little screen where the stage lights are on the floor.

Now they use electronic readers that are wireless and give you the ability to really take over the stage from one to the other and even go out into the audience and your voice is modulated as you intended and your style dictates without being to low, soft, flat or missed counts.

They even play the words in the readers and sometimes cues so you know that you have to physically do something at an exact moment.

Most singers can only memorize at best 300 songs. Well, that's performers because their product is what they have recorded, intend to record or is a concert only piece.

Elvis would be an exception as he had so many albums but singers who were hired for background had to understand that he had more than 800 songs memorized by the 70's and backgrounders as well instruments needed to familiarize themselves with a larger portion of his products then most musicians.

When I was a lead singer in a gospel choir we had a reader in front of us and I needed it otherwise I would miss pitch or tempo due to the vast number in the choir, musical instruments that sometimes didn't pitch right and audience distractions.

Here is an example of a performer with readers:

My daughter has sung “semi” professionally for 40 years and has never used those. She’s a regular with the Richmond Symphony Chorus and has a long resume of weddings, cathedral chorus, lieder, concert, community productions, etc. She has the music memorized, or uses a score. Of course it is a different style of music. Thanks for the education.

If I looked like your picture, I’d hide my face, as well as my ears! LOL.

I know!

I thought about that picture but I was in a hurry to answer you and having shoulder surgery 4 weeks ago I get uncomfortable real quick at the keyboard.

In fact, I switched to my phone for this post.

For a couple of years in the 90’s I had a thing for Filipinas. Still do.

So I found myself in karoake bars singing Di Na Na Tuto be use it is a famous song and they just love the words.

I sang a couple of others but the titles escape me. I even learned a decent amount of Tagalog as well.

Filipinas are just beautiful inside and out. I love their sunny disposition and they are game to do anything fun.

My 1st date with a Filipina owned a travel agency and some Filipina newspapers. When I first met her I literally dropped my jaw.

She was knock out gorgeous, extremely bright, a big tease and lots of fun.

She was the 1st female commercial pilot for Philippine Airlines and was requested for private flights kings, princes and potentates of the Middle East.

Unfortunately those very qualities that attracted me to her .....other men found interesting as well
I mean here is this accomplished woman, who could drive a golf ball 250 yards all day long, was very competitve at everything. just fun to be around and she was always creative about finding interesting things to do.

So after 6 months she starts calling me every other week at 2,3 or 4 in the morning.

She was in all these countries with friends(men who where my co.petition) and after two months I got the picture that she back to dating and the guys all had more money and toys than me.

She spoke 7 languages and would speak to me in the language wherever she was.

Crazy woman and sadly I had to let her go and do her thing.

But she’s the one that drew me to Filipinas.

Dang. I should look her up.

She was so damn fun.
