Awhile back I read about a black belt who was walking through a park. He was momentarily distracted by a thug, then beat up pretty bad. You've got to keep you guard up always, but anyone can be distracted.

Surprising to me. Stranger jumps out of a car comes towards me, he better stop the ten feet or so away that I WILL tell him to stop and state his business, or he’s gonna get dropped when he gets any closer...it really is that simple. ESPECIALLY in an alley. If the account is correct, the poor young guy assumed he was safe. God bless him, he was an innocent, for sure.
That was the m.o. in a similar incident in NJ.
The perps in that case were never caught, although some pretty clear images of them turned up on a convenience store's surveillance camera.
Oh, and btw: The perps were wearing hoodies.
