I know on the occasions my mom got snacks, she got them from the Hostess day old thrift store. Or sent me to get them.
Exactly. We had day-old lots of things here in the U.S., and looked for change on the sidewalk or good transfer tickets to make it the stores, if we (kids) couldn’t walk there. But it upset people greatly upon the suggestion that if they are taking taxpayer money, they should be handed out rice and bean rations at a warehouse.
I’m first-generation American — my parents and grandparents escaped Stalin (and later Hitler). The sniveling takers on this thread haven’t seen as much as they think they have.
