Steve Wozniak Seeks Australian Citizenship: America May Lose Yet Another Billionaire

CNBC is reporting that Steve Wozniak, who founded Apple with Steve Jobs in 1976, is seeking to become an Australian citizen. Wozniak, who is currently in Australia promoting the launch of the new iPhone 5, spoke with Australian media and expressed his love for the country, and for the Australian government’s plans to launch its National Broadband Network (NBN). This lead many news outlets to incorrectly report that Wozniak’s motivations for emigrating were purely because of the NBN.

Wozniak mentioned that he would keep his U.S. citizenship, but said, “I intend to call myself an Australian and feel Australian.” Unfortunately, Wozniak might find holding onto his U.S. citizenship a little more difficult when it comes time to applying for Australian citizenship. According to the U.S. Department of State, dual nationality is permitted by the country because of birth, marriage, or immigrants to the U.S. retaining the nationality of their country of origin. However, for a U.S. citizen to actively seek out foreign citizenship for any other reason is grounds for them losing their US citizenship.

Good riddance to a liberal whiner...too bad he can’t take the cult he founded with him.

Oh shut up. Your stupid Republican Loyalty Salute doesn't work with Woz. He's an American treasure, and this is just sad.

The US allows dual citizenship. No problems there for Woz.

Boy when Oboingo got elected I told a number of people AU was our escape valve, they all thought I was nucking futs..... Funny thing is the Monster-In-Laws are thinking of going on a Senior Trip and some Jewish Senior Conservative friends are beginning to think America is over and are talking of moving to AU. I guess I am not crazy after all and neither is S.W.....

“However, for a U.S. citizen to actively seek out foreign citizenship for any other reason is grounds for them losing their US citizenship.”

Ya right, never happen. Why? Well then the US can’t tax the hell out of you. So they are more than happy having you keep your US citizenship as it allows them to collect taxes on whatever you make where ever you are. As far as Steve W looking to get an Australian citizenship I say go for it, why not? Any way are people here so hard over on people looking to live somewhere that is freer than here in the US? If more people did this then the US would eventually be forced to go back to being the freest country around rather than number 18 on the current list or risk loosing a lot of their best (and richest) to other countries.

If you say so.

To me he’s just another Zero-lover. I could care less what he did. he’s a liberal, and now he wants to run out on America. He’s an un-American idiot who deserves nothing but contempt by a true patriot.

You must be a Linux/Apple cultist.

Then join them.

They’re deserting America when the going gets a little tough.

To Hades with him.

Woz & his wife ride their Segways past our house nearly every Wednesday on their way to the local Apple store. They’re kind of a local institution, I’ll be sorry to see him go.

“Then join them.”

You seem to have forgotten that our forefathers did the same thing when times got tough in their country of origin. So are you also willing to damn those that deserted their country to emigrate here?

Wozniak just wants to save some of his money from the other democrats..
He knows something.. A rat wants to leave the ship..

Any intelligent rich person already has most of his liquid assets offshore..
But it seems there is a lot of stupid rich people..

They fled tyranny. We’re not quite there yet.

Wozniak is a tyrant loving Zero supporter.

Good riddance to him.

They need to yank his citizenship though.

I don’t want him contributing to candidates here while living it up in Sydney.

“Any intelligent rich person already has most of his liquid assets offshore..”

Nope, most of the rich have tax sheltered trusts set up. True the newly rich (read hedge fund managers) have done a lot of off shoring of their wealth but most of them use trusts which keeps the wealth in the family.

America was founded by people who ran out on their countries. It’s about the most American thing you can do.
