Which science-fiction scenario better describes the future: Star Trek or Blade Runner? That is, can we look forward to the utopian vista of Star Trek, in which we humans have solved the problems of earth, leaving the rest of the universe for us to explore? Or must we dread the smoggy dystopia of Blade Runner, in which a brutal world is divided starkly between the huddled poor and the rich luxuriating in their guarded enclaves?

All good questions. When I saw the trailer for this film I was totally underwhelmed by its basic premise.
May I present “The Book of Eli” as a possible glimpse into a God-free, post-apocalyptic America.
Looper is such a weird movie. The telekinetic angle felt tacked on, but has a huge impact on the rest of the movie. I love the theory that Kid Blue and Abe are the same person.

It was in the sense that aliens implanted our intelligence, and then saved us before we destroyed ourselves. But then again, the movie was so abstract and purposely mysterious that I doubt most people saw it that way. I know I didn't. (A person would have to read the book to make any sense of it.)
Quite a few people figure that Kubrick held a very low opinion of his own species.
I enjoyed those books. The next one should be out next year.
