Galt’s Gulch must be someplace warmer. Texas sounds good to me, but there are large sections of the Southeast that could qualify.

I was talking about a location for the Free State Project, not necessarily Galt's Gulch. Small population is neceessary for political takeover. That is different than an SHTF or survivalist location.

Also, if you pick your crops carefully, you might be surprised what you can grow in the north. Even Alaska has the benefit of VERY long daylight during its short summer. In the many of the northern states, water is not an issue as it is in large parts of the southwest.

I have a relative who is a healthcare professional living in Alaska. She tells me that the interminable winter darkness, extreme cold, and social isolation lead to a very high rate of depression and even suicide during Alaska’s winters. Gotta wonder if the high rate of alcoholism there is connected, too.

I do not understand how people can endure the cold, snow, and darkness up there in the winter. I have lived in the northern parts of the lower 48 and found it awful. Why someone would choose to inflict that on himself when he could live in warmer conditions is difficult to grasp. So you can go and establish your settlement up there, and I hope you have every success. Me, I’m trying to figure out a practical way to move further south than my present mid-Atlantic location.
