This tune was originally a Jacobite song, lamenting the return of Bonnie Prince Charlie to claim the throne of Scotland. In the early 20th Century, new lyrics were supplied by Patrick Pease to suit the Irish Rebellion against English rule.
I commend it to you. Pay attention to the English subtitles to the Irish Gallic lyrics. It could well apply to our present situation and will become my theme song for the election season. Apologies to the Irish and the Scots (and the English as well), but we need your song for the moment and you'll forgive us for borrowing it.

LOVE that song!!!
I’m with a Celtic band here in VA... we do that one when we do an Irish set. It’s a beautiful piece!
A much more powerful version of it is by Ronnie Drew of the Dubliners from a 1994 appearance on Ireland’s BiBi show. It’s out there on Youtube.
