Did you try to “reset” to an earlier time?

I’m sure you backed up everything before the crash...right?

I’m about ready to go back to W98.

Save a recipe on flashdrive and open up on another computer.

tech ping?

I’d try to run Linux Ubuntu 12.04 or Knoppix from a flashdrive and see if those files are still there.

Don’t even think about (system not responding) VISTA. I would take W95 over vista. My XP system died over the “Windows Restore” virus and I am finally getting it to work again.

What format are the wife’s recipes?

You may be missing Java or some Flash updates.

Not sure what kind of “cash” you had. load
Malwarebytes Anti-malware. it’s free and cleans out spyware. It can’t hurt

Something for you to consider is that just ONE anti-virus/malware/trojan program does not catch all the little buggies.

I have Malwarebytes, and Microsoft Security Essentials, and SuperAntiSpyware. I have had several times that each program found different problems and removed them.

You can never be too safe.

My computer crashed and MS display said no support so I used contact MS and they gave me a way to get all caught up with a code or something. Try contacting them and tell them the problem they may help you.

Yes. I assumed he already had a virus software. I use Security Essential + Malwarebytes. Not familiar with SuperAntiSpyware so I will check that one out. Thanks

Where I work there is still a Windows 3.1 box that runs legacy software to burn prom chips to keep ancient equipment running.
