SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A high school football game in San Bernardino ended in a bench-clearing brawl between players last Friday night.
The melee, which was caught on camera, happened during a Homecoming game at San Bernardino High School with Palm Desert High.
Palm Desert was leading 45-6 when San Bernardino’s quarterback was tackled in front of Palm Desert’s bench.
A San Bernardino player proceeded to knock a Palm Desert player from behind, drawing a penalty flag.
Then, players on both teams got physical.
Jeff Imbriani, San Bernardino’s coach, said that’s not the entire story.
“All we know is that he got tackled. He got grabbed in the private. He got up, kinda shoved the guy off…like…‘What are you doing?’ And then he swung. The guy swung and then (it was) all melee from there,” he said.
CIF Southern Section rules state that a football player who leaves the bench during an altercation is disqualified from playing the next game.
Palm Desert and San Bernardino high schools could forfeit their scheduled games Friday because members of each team participated in the fight.
CIF officials have allowed both schools to make recommendations for discipline.
“(On) Wednesday, the school administration from San Bernardino and Palm Desert high schools, they will be meeting to discuss the situation,” said Linda Bardere from the San Bernardino Unified School District.
CIF, however, will ultimately decide whether or not the suggested punishments are good enough.
Palm Desert is just a little south of Palm Springs.
Looks like Palm Desert High let its playing do the talking & this was how San Bernadino chose to answer.

What were they thinking? That Palm Desert squad is a world beater. Why doncha schedule San Dimas for next year?
A little friendly advice: West Covina is a perennial door-mat, maybe they're a little more your speed.
Perhaps that was part of the problem. There was a time when a high school coach would put in his second - or even third - team when he was way ahead. It gave the other kids a chance to play, and sent this message to the other team: we're not going to humiliate you by running up the score.
That being said, nobody likes getting their a**es handed to them by a bigger, faster, and probably better coached opponent and emotions run high at that age.
How do you know he didn't? How do you know that San B. isn't just that bad? Yes, it can happen. I know, because I have taken part in such games...from both sides. If someone doesn't want to be humiliated, they should either prepare better, or not take the field.
Anyway, comments like your last one (innocent as it may be) are what eventually lead to not keeping score, because we don't want the lesser team to feel bad. It leads to, everyone gets a trophy, because EVERYONE is a winner. And, it leads to players being forced to play below their level, or be punished, because we can't have one person excel at the expense of another.
For the record. I think coaches that purposefully run up the score are a-holes. I've played against them and coached against them; don't like 'em. Still, I'm not gonna make comments or advocate anything that is even remotely PC in dealing with them. It crushes the competitive spirit and gives people, especially children a screwed up perspective on what it means to compete for something, and life in general.

Not always. Ohio powerhouses like Cleveland Benedictine, Cincinnati Moeller, and the Massillon Tigers were notorious back in the 60’s and 70’s for running up scores and beating other teams with scores like 75-14.
You not only have to beat them, but demoralize ‘em as well. This is typical liberal mamby-pamby crap. This is like the trotted out 10-run mercy rule some idiot mamagers in MLB come up with every now and again.
You want to do that to teams, it gives you a reputaion for mercilessness, and that strikes fear into the hearts of future opponents.
There are many levels between running up the score and not keeping score. It is not one or the other. And try to remember, it is a high school football game. It is not the Battle of Gettysburg.
Yes, it does give you a reputation. But it's not for mercilessness.
Heck...even at Frederickburg, the rebels honored teh white flag and let the Yanks collect the wounded.
