Planning to attend all three days.

Try to catch Amanda Shaw on Sunday. Ten years ago, I used to watch her play in New Orleans. She was too young then to order anything from the bar.

Wow.. actually, on YouTube, it brought up some Honky-Tonk may dad used to play to me when I was a kid (2-8yo) that I had forgotten...

not what I was looking for, but definitely worth my time (happy/sad tears)..

A great list of preformers. What is the attendance that can be expected to attend, day or total. This should be a fun event but I suspect it would be tiring also. Have fun and thanks for sharing the info.

Well, since there is no cover charge it is very crowded. There are no camp sites at the facility either. Saturdays and Sundays tend to draw between as much as 250,000 each day! But since it is free you don't have to wait in line to gain admittance. Just drag your body to the park.

It gets VERY crowded late in the afternoon. I shy away from the main stages later in the day, cuz, well, you can't really get close to the stage, anyway.

Danny Barnes may not be the most technically accomplished banjo player, but he is my favorite.

I used to see Danny Barnes in the Bad Livers every couple of months for a few years. Eventually the music he played and then he moved away from the area.

I still see Mark Rubin now and then (every couple of years he pops up).

I agree that Barnes’ more recent stuff is not his best, but is still quite entertaining.

This is what the thread I made was about (Bluegrass -> Redgrass)

This is Asian Bluegrass.. and it is not 'their version'.. it is ours taken over there ;)

紅庭 ... and if you cannot see the Chinese Characters, they say it translates to, "Red Chamber, Jaybirds" ... but I know the Japanese version( Kanji) of red.. and I don't see the Kanji for it..

Anyway.. here is REAL American Bluegrass, Asian style (with a bit of banjo and guitar thrown in ;)) ...

1 more for you to bookmark... Same kids from my post #2..

I think this is pretty much their debut 1 year before:

U2b Vid (YouTube)

When I watch that kid play the banjo, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.. also, his older brother is excellent on the fiddle.

My father passed his guitar down to me when I was about 8 (about the same age)... I could never be as gifted as this kid..

It was an Incredible weekend or great music. I saw 10 full sets.

-Pickwick
-Beachwood Sparks
-Jon Langford and the Sadies
-Dirty Three
-Buddy Miller (with guests Emmylou, Patty Griffin, Victoria Williams and Robert Plant)
-Giant Sand (yes, that was John Paul Jones playing mandolin!)
-Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch, Fats Kaplan
-Lucero
-Dwight Yoakam
-Walter Salas-Humara (the Silos)

They were all great, but Lucero was the best! They have got to be one of the best live acts around. Dirty Three was pretty amazing, too.

To: Revolting cat!

A singularly outstanding “scary great” mandolinist, with “spider fingers”. Someone so young one hopes he will pace himself— pure energy sometimes.

Oddly enough, as a child he started out wanting to play pro baseball (like a lot of children), then applied his energy to mandolin. Nickel Creek being the first real produced album he did (Mark Schatz produced) is exceptional. The originals (along with some classics) are really something, including Thile’s “Lighthouse”. Also recommend youtubes of Chris and Mike Marshall (a friend of mine) playing “Fisher’s Hornpipe” well rehearsed and yet— spontaneous.

Deo Vindice.
