I’ve seen Steve Earle, Robert Earl Keen, and The Lumineers all playing free instore concerts this year.

Last time I caught the Knitters, there was great interaction between John Doe and Dave Alvin on guitars.

Enjoy.

Nice lineup, and the festival is well named.

It is not a bluegrass festival, for sure. Of the “founding fathers” segment, only Earl Scruggs would carry a “bluegrass father” label (and of course Bill Monroe, Doc Watson was vehement he was “not a bluegrass artist”, but a traditional plus one. Earl and Doc both passed away this year. Warren Hellman underwrote the festival until his death in ‘11.

Also.. if you know of any Bluegrass ping lists, please tell them to put me on...

That 9yo kid is a natural.. mid brother is good, but not as good.. worried about the oldest though :p .. (I believe he is 15, or was at the time it was recorded)..

My pop said he learned guitar when he was about 12... banjo on Navy ships between points... I have a B/W photo somewhere around here of my pop playing banjo on a ship (not sure which) when he was about 17-18..

Wow! That line up is stupendous! Lucero! Jerry Douglas! Jon Langford! RE Keen, Patty Griffin, The Chieftains, Steve Earle, Justin Townes Earl, Dirty Three! Cowboy Junkies, Heartless Bastards, Son Volt, Patti Smith! Dwight Yoakam!

Unfortunatly, I'm on the wrong coast. Do not miss Dirty Three, if you don't know about them.

Planning to attend all three days.

Try to catch Amanda Shaw on Sunday. Ten years ago, I used to watch her play in New Orleans. She was too young then to order anything from the bar.

A great list of preformers. What is the attendance that can be expected to attend, day or total. This should be a fun event but I suspect it would be tiring also. Have fun and thanks for sharing the info.

This is what the thread I made was about (Bluegrass -> Redgrass)

This is Asian Bluegrass.. and it is not 'their version'.. it is ours taken over there ;)

紅庭 ... and if you cannot see the Chinese Characters, they say it translates to, "Red Chamber, Jaybirds" ... but I know the Japanese version( Kanji) of red.. and I don't see the Kanji for it..

Anyway.. here is REAL American Bluegrass, Asian style (with a bit of banjo and guitar thrown in ;)) ...

1 more for you to bookmark... Same kids from my post #2..

I think this is pretty much their debut 1 year before:

U2b Vid (YouTube)

When I watch that kid play the banjo, I don't know whether to laugh or cry.. also, his older brother is excellent on the fiddle.

My father passed his guitar down to me when I was about 8 (about the same age)... I could never be as gifted as this kid..

It was an Incredible weekend or great music. I saw 10 full sets.

-Pickwick
-Beachwood Sparks
-Jon Langford and the Sadies
-Dirty Three
-Buddy Miller (with guests Emmylou, Patty Griffin, Victoria Williams and Robert Plant)
-Giant Sand (yes, that was John Paul Jones playing mandolin!)
-Kieran Kane, Kevin Welch, Fats Kaplan
-Lucero
-Dwight Yoakam
-Walter Salas-Humara (the Silos)

They were all great, but Lucero was the best! They have got to be one of the best live acts around. Dirty Three was pretty amazing, too.
