Oral Sex Could Spread Antibotic-Resistant Gonorrhea Superbug

Health officials have been sounding the alarm about a drug-resistant strain of gonorrhea, and data from around the world now suggests that oral sex could be the means of transmission of the so-called superbug.

Gonorrhea (i.e., the gonococcus microbe) is said to be the second most commonly reported infectious disease in the US, and cephalosporins — the class of drugs most commonly used to treat it — are apparently no longer effective against the infection. As a result, scientists fear a global sexually transmitted gonorrhea epidemic.

The New Yorker discusses the connection between gonorrhea (a.k.a. “the clap”) and oral sex:

“A driving factor behind the rise in gonorrhea infections, as well as the trend toward total antibiotic resistance, is our complacent attitude toward oral sex. Saliva contains enzymes that destroy gonorrhea, so kissing and cunnilingus don’t spread it. But fellatio, which brings the tip of the urethra near the pharynx, carries a high risk of infecting one partner or the other. According to Dr. Peter Rice, a gonorrhea expert at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, fellatio ‘is the only predictable way to transmit gonococcal infection to the pharynx.’”

From the article:

"Gonorrhea is one of the most common STDs in the United States; more than 700,000 infections are estimated to occur in this country each year. Although some men and women may have symptoms (such as burning when urinating or discharge), most people do not. As a result, many infections go undetected and untreated. Left untreated, gonorrhea can cause serious health problems, particularly for women, including chronic pelvic pain, life-threatening ectopic pregnancy, and even infertility. Infection also increases the risk of contracting and transmitting HIV."

“Men would be the overwhelming spreaders since they are far sluttier.”

It takes two to tango.

Pretty much same here. That was with me and my last two GF's-both made the first move and tired of me being not confident enough to proceed first. Women hide their sluttiness better and have more control but once they are in a relationship, like you and are comfortable with you..watch out...freaks majority of them..not all of course.

Know what doesn’t affect people with the clap? Not having sex with strangers, hookers, and SBGLs. Go figure.

Don't stop your reasoning at the first raissonne you find!

Which kind of men would be more likely to spread the superbug?

C'mon, you can think it through! Remember the little engine that could!

Now, take into account the fact that homosexuals are notorious for having large numbers of sexual partners, do oral as well as anal sex, and do not typically wear condoms when engaging in oral sex, and you have all conditions needed for a rapidly-spreading epidemic

Don't forget ATM without a condom. That sure can't help...

I always enjoy your quirky and often, quasi-esoteric posts. But have you considered instead perusing the websites of, say, “Popular Mechanics” or “Saveur?”

Some sexual acts are congruent with Natural Law, and some aren't. This article is a vivid example of the "aren't" category. So many problems - societal, social, health - would be solved if the accepted cultural standard for sex was within monogamous committed married life.

Homo more likely than hetero because there are 2 men as opposed to 1.

If anyone here believes that the average male does not have more female encounters than vice versa, they are seriously mistaken.

You are doing so well in you progress. One little step to go!

See, when grown-ups discuss things, they rely on facts, not just assertions uttered with false confidence. Here’s a link to some FACTS: http://factsaboutyouth.com/posts/promiscuity/

If you have some FACTS, that would help when you converse with grown-ups.

Otherwise, you can continue to hang out with like-minded teens and repeat like-minded assertions to one another to build your confidence that you know something of value.

In order to distinguish this STD from regular gonorrhea and call much-needed attention to the threat, I propose giving the Super bug a new name: Clintonorrhea

“Overall, women tend to have fewer sex partners than men.”

Were you sticking to the homo factoid? Because this article said nothing about women except this little quote and that fag women are a bit worse than hetero women.

He’s right about men and women; it’s common sense. Why you sequed into homo vs. hetero from poster’s original declaration, I don’t know.
