IMHO LeMond protested too loudly and too quickly when Armstrong won his first Tour. As a bike retailer, Ive met LeMond and he seems to have an ax to grind as soon as he stopped being the darling of US Cycling. He also accused everyone he got beat by of doping while he was racing. He was dubbed “Mr Water” by his peers and it wasnt as LeMond states for him being “clean” He also “cheated” in his second tour win by being the 1st to use aero-bars. He was also diagnosed with anemia, which is a side affect of blood-doping, but lost those years so he wasnt tested. He also used his bff Barteau, riding for the race leader, as a spy. LeMond isnt the guy to cast stones. And yes I believe they all do what ever they feel necessary to win. It is their livelyhood
The first time I remember ever hearing any criticism of Greg is when he spoke of his concerns about Lance associating with Michele Ferrari, after that all hell broke loose... with people like you accusing him of “having an ax to grind” and being accused of everything else under the sun by Lance's croneys.
If you can't recognize a political style hit job designed to confuse the public then you are not very observant. Greg paid dearly for expressing his concerns... Well it appears now that Greg LeMond has been vindicated. Maybe if people like you had actually listened to him instead of attacking him... cycling wouldn't be facing this truly awful scandal.
The performance enhancing effects of EPO were first discovered by a Swedish researcher in 1989. In 1990 Greg's career began to falter, around the time other athletes began experimenting with the substance. Maybe Greg had good reason to be concerned about what his competitors were up to.
I know Greg LeMond to be a very good person and the greatest athlete that I have ever met. Despite his fame and fortune is still married to the same woman after thirty years. He will always be one of the people that I admire the most despite the load of crap he took from people like you for telling the truth.
