A 20-year-old woman who appeared in the 2005 remake of "Bad News Bears" was killed in an apparent alcohol-related car crash on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash which claimed the life of Sammi Kane Kraft, formerly of Studio City, took place about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday on the westbound Santa Monica Freeway, east of Crenshaw Boulevard, according to CHP Officer Christian Craycraft.

The accident, which involved two cars and a big rig, also left 21-year-old Molly Adams of Santa Monica, the driver of the car in which Kraft was riding, slightly injured and under arrest for suspicion of felony drunken driving, Craycraft said.

Kraft was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, according to the CHP.

Kraft won the role of star pitcher Amanda Whurlitzer, played by Tatum O'Neal in the 1976 version, "The Bad News Bears," after she wowed the director with her 75 mph fastball, according to a 2005 profile in the Daily News.

It was the only professional acting role for Kraft, who was recording and performing music as part of the San Francisco-based garage folk group Scary Girls at the time of her death.

The remake with Billy Bob Thornton was actually pretty good. I was 11 when the first one came out and LOVED it, so I thought the remake was an abomination before I’d actually seen it. Pretty good, and the girl was good for a kid athlete turned temporary actor.

The best version by far is the 1976 version with Walter Matthau...I still watch it every year. The ‘76 Englebert was far better than the ‘05 Englebert.

I've yet to see the remake. I was about ten or eleven when the first one came out and I loved it as well. I've been worried that the remake might ruin it for me. Watching the original now and you see how it is so politically incorrect the it could not be remade in the same fashion.

I guess I will have to see it now. Too bad about the girl. 20 is so young.

People forgot why the 1976 version of the Bad News Bears was so controversial in its day...it was the first time EVER on film, pre teenagers cursed and talked like...foul mouthed kids. Now every Hollywood pre teen kid talks like a truck driver in the movies.

What a freakin' horrible headline - another reason to always READ THE ACTUAL ARTICLE:

"The accident, which involved two cars and a big rig, also left 21-year-old Molly Adams of Santa Monica, the driver of the car in which Kraft was riding, slightly injured and under arrest for suspicion of felony drunken driving, Craycraft said."

Speaking of the original...

In her autobiography, Tatum O'Neal claims that when she was 12 and her friend Melanie Griffith was 18, her father, Ryan O'Neal, took the girls on a trip to Europe, where she caught him having sex with Griffith in their hotel room.[6] O'Neal also alleged that Griffith persuaded her into participating in an orgy after they had smoked opium and hashish.

Some things in Hllyweird just do not change

People now think of it as a children’s film but it was very much a film for adults about an adult (the Walter Matthau character).

Ryan O’Neal is notorious as one of the worst parents in Hollywood history.

“worst parent”??

Sounds like he should be in prison as a sex offender along with Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson who did the same to Melanie.

I bet a good double-digit % of Hollyweird should be registered sex offenders

I doubt the booze ruined her, I think she was ruined by Hollyweird before turning to booze.

Having a kid grow up in Hollywood is tantamount to child abuse.
