Over the summer I got behind a woman using EBT to buy 8-10 large cans of powdered baby formula. She had one baby in arms and a small toddler sitting in the cart.

I heard tongue clicking and deep sighs behind me, but I stuck it out and watched the transaction for the 10 minutes it took. It was profoundly sad watching this.

I’ve never seen a man with a women using EBT, it’s always a woman.

I was behind a couple at Safeway. They had at least 50 dog food cans. The man put in his club member card to get the discount on the dog food. Then he said: "Wait, yes I WILL round my purchase out to $100, for breast cancer research (the promotion going on now).

The woman with him said: "Wait, let me swipe my EBT card!"

I must have missed something. Does EBT pay for dog food?

The man paid with a crisp $100 bill and got back about $40.
