You can't compare Reagan trying to deal with the public's knowledge that he was a famous right-winger, to a man who is famous among conservatives for being anti-Reagan and anti-conservative.

Nevermind they were/are on polar opposites sides of the political spectrum.

Conservative lost the first election (the primary), mainly because we failed to field a strong candidate. Now we have a second election. I prefer to defeat Obama and keep pushing Romney to the right. I'm certain we'll have better luck with Romney than Obama.
You can fall back on the Obama train wreck theory, but Marxists have a lot of experience with turning train wrecks into power.
