Because my son, Wayne, the documentary film director, has lived so long in England, I have been there a number of times and immersed in their language. Wayne sounds British so he fits in, I sound Texan, and people in shops stare at me when I talk. Texan is right and British is wrong.

Here's a story for you: I was in England one Christmas and we went to a party at his wife's mother's house. Wayne's wife was an actress and her sister was Miss Moneypenny in several James Bond films. So, these actor type people were going in and out of the house and one young man was introduced to me and he kissed me on my cheek.

I was back in the US and time went by and one day the TV is all atwitter because Hugh Grant was arrested with a prostitute in a car. My phone rang not long after that and it was Wayne. He said, “Mother, the man who kissed you at the party was Hugh Grant.”

I swear all he did was kiss me on the cheek and that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
