I didn’t say it would be good. I’m just saying that the media hype and the “Frankenstorm” label make it sound like it’s going to be the world’s worst natural disaster.
Fortunately for Obama, it takes the headlines off Benghazi.
Very true but if the Obama administrations response to Sandy is anywhere a near as confused and inept as its response to Benghazi was, that might actually be bad for Obama. But so close to the election, its unclear what effect that might have on the election if any.
As far as media hype, yes I agree it is a bit much, but OTOH if it is bad and people think they werent warned or if the outcome doesnt match the hype people lose faith in the forecasts its sort of a damned if they do, damned if they dont scenario.
I recall during, immediately after Katrina that many in the media were saying New Orleans dodged a bullet and called the all clear. OTOH, the media and weather forecasters were warning for days that Katrina would be bad and many chose to ignore the warnings.
Weather forecasting and advance warning systems are much more accurate now days than they were many years ago. I recall with Agnes, going to bed the night before expecting to go to a school picnic the next day only to wake up with my mom telling me, youre not going today, were having a hurricane, it seemed to take a lot of people by surprise. I recall that the blizzard of 83, going to work that morning with a forecast of a little light snow, some flurries and 8 hours later looking out my window at work with a foot of snow on the ground and more piling up. I was stranded at work for nearly two days after nearly 23 inches of snow fell with wicked high winds, big drifts, bitter cold temperatures and thunder snow during the height of the storm. The forecasts of the 1993, 1996 and 2003 blizzards seemed like hype but were pretty accurate.
