Agree 100%. Even if Benghazi had NEVER happened, the MSM would be covering this storm with the same level of intensity. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either a nut or has never watched the media in a major storm.

And if it wasn't Sandy...they would be covering the World Series or some other story.

Don’t have to worry about the kid and school - by 4pm Friday school was cancelled for Monday and Tuesday. Some of the schools are needed for shelters, which opened at 2pm - and are already being utilized. And the worst of it hasn’t really gotten here yet. Tomorrow morning’s high tides are going to be killer - because tonight’s were no picnic

There is a group of us on facebook taking turns with updates - another 20 minutes or so and then I’m to bed until high tides start about 9am.

What about sea temperatures? Isn’t that what drives a hurricane, at least in cyclonic motion?

The current NOAA temp maps show warmer water much further out, particularly once past the Outer Banks/Hatteras. The waters for some 200 plus nautical miles off NJ/NY and further N show 60 deg. F So it shouldn’t keep up cylconic motion, right? Besides the cold temperature of it, is it the force of the arctic air coming down pushing the disturbance onshore— this seems to be what the projection is showing.
This being “extra-tropical” makes this nothing like the 35 plus years experience I’ve had (and many hurricanes/tropical storms been through) in Caribbean island and Gulf of Mexico fishing/sailing.

Sandra Fluke will accuse Republicans of preventing skyscrapers of being protected by refusing to fund giant condoms for downtown NYC buildings...

So sorry the rest of the world is wrong and you are right.

That's one of the things I both love and hate about FR. There are people who see the world ONLY through their glasses...and anyone that doesn't is a down-right idiot.

Surge was 12' at Lakefront.

N.O. is below Lakefront. Any storm water within the metro area has to be pumped out. Once the surge breached the leaves, it was up to the roof tops and higher in lower areas.

How about I let you know when the $ damage amounts surpass your flood and Elena’s tornadoes.

Thanks for being one of the few voices of reason on this thread.

It is so irritating when the tinfoil hat group comes out and refuses to see basic staring you in the face facts.

It’s not the end of the world. We have experienced things like this before. Let’s not freak out about it.

I agree that we shouldn't freak out about this storm, but at the same time, the seriousness should also not be downplayed, such as you're continuing to do on this thread.

People are going to die, and there will be billions in property damage. There will be private horrors for some people, that decades won't wash away.

Those of us who are fortunate enough to be many states removed from this cataclysm should grant a little respect for those who about to endure a powerful, and possibly life changing event.

Sure, the media is going to wet their panties about this, but we all knew they would. That's hardly even worth mentioning in a place like this.

I’m wrong about what?

That it has rained before?

I’m amazed that you didn’t choose to live at Cape Hatteras.
Of course if you need a hand with a good chainsaw, I will be there.

:^)

Uh...yeah. I know where NOLA is. I worked Katrina....and I also worked the Hurricane Pam exercises in 2004.

I know how NOLA flooded...where...why. That doesn't change the surges. 12' at Lakefront and 16' (Est.) around Plaq. Parish. The reason it was up to the rooftops is...well...when you build a city in a bathtub and water starts coming over the side...you flood to your rooftops.

The weather’s nice here in Arizona.

When we lived in Virginia Beach, we prepped for storms and LEFT town. No need to stick around and whine about it. No need to put our children in danger. And since school was cancelled, it was a great time for a visit to grandparents. AND we could watch TWC idiots stand between high rise hotels on the beach so they got the greatest wind effect possible for the cameras.

I hope the people along the East Coast have heeded the warnings and have left areas vulnerable to flooding. And I pray that these storms fizzle out and do less damage than forecast.

Listen...I've been doing this stuff for over 2 decades...

Yeah, same ole same ole. That's what the nuclear scientists said when they told some of us that the radiation coming from Japan was less than their microwave.

If the hurricane hits right on target I will be cheering the accurate predictions of the weather people but not for what happens to the people in the areas.

I have lived in this area for more than 4 decades and have seen landfall targets NOT happen as predicted. My suspicions have always been that it will hit Conn or more up the coast. Maybe they are right, maybe they are wrong. I could care less if you agree or disagree with my suspicions. I am NOT a weatherman.

I do NOT believe in man-made Global Warming either. I believe in God.

People are going to die (people die everyday),

and there will be billions in property damage. After the last 4 years it will be miniscule compared to the damage Obama brought on

There will be private horrors for some people, that decades won’t wash away.

Hurricane Sand-usky... and not being a pessimist on this thread will change this how?

>>>"pooing on the hyperbole of it"

In essence...that. Some do not think it hyperbole. You do. But...in typical freeper fashion...you can't just agree to disagree. Instead...everyone else is an idiot and you are brilliant.

Enough said about this....

I am just trying to be optimistic. Otherwise I would be posting threads calling for it to be renamed Hurricane Sandusky, bend over NE Coast!!
