Why does it even bother you that some people prepare for emergencies?

Those who live in tornado country or hurricane country may well have good reason to prepare for tough times. If that means a week or two (or maybe even three) of food, water, etc it may be wise and reasonable. It's the ones who have gas masks, food supplies that have a 20 year shelf life,1,000 doses of penicillin and 50,000 rounds of ammo who are the whackjobs.

I tend to mind my own business. It's the purest form of tolerance.

“Whackjob” is a sliding scale.

My libinlaw thinks I’m a whackjob, and that’s only because she’s seen that we have a “lot” (by her standards) of canned food.

You clearly have some emotional issue with preparedness.

Why only days worth of supplies when we know that weeks are more realistic? Why do you limit your permission only to tornado and hurricane regions and not approve of people preparing in earthquake and blizzard regions, or any region where they may have to endure unemployment?

Why do you keep going after ammunition? What is wrong with food that has a long shelf life instead of a short shelf life?, what is wrong with people in Manhattan being prudent enough to buy a couple of Israeli gas masks, like Israel issues?

I don’t get your whole thing against self sufficiency and being independently prepared to take care of one’s self and one’s family.

It seems weird to be talking to an ‘anti-preparedness’ advocate.

Back when I was shooting a lot more than I do today, and had the family here helping me burn through ammo, 75,000 rounds was just smart bulk purchases. The price of ammo NEVER goes down, and the discounts for bulk were significant.

I buy coffee once a year to last all year. Bulk again, green coffee beans that will last many years. Buying bulk coffee around harvest season from a broker in Costa Rica brings my price for truly fantastic coffee way, way down. Since I roast it myself, I have some of the best coffee in the area. Beats Starbucks hands down.

Same with powdered milk. I buy in bulk every few years because it lasts, and I don't use fresh milk in my cooking. A quart would go bad before it got used up.

I do that with LOTS of items that I regularly use. Seems pretty fiscally conservative to me.

Reading the underlying tone of 'nanny' in your several pontifications on this thread, some might reasonably wonder if you've not stumbled onto the wrong website.

IOW > what f'n business is it of yours that someone wants to pile up a bunch of Spam & beans out of their own resources ?

Does my two-week supply of survival essentials meet with your majesty's approval ?

Would you prefer it be listed on some register somewhere ?

Or that I pay a tax on it for all those silly enough to sit with thumb inserted, waiting on the nanny vans to come save their sorry asses ?

See, the problem with control freaks is they won't stop till they've bled you dry .. all for your own and everyone else's good of course .. and all by *their* whimsical standard of 'reasonable'.

And your problem with this is????? I've got some long term supplies in my mix and I'm not a wackjob.

1,000 doses of penicillin

Anyone you personally know or just expressing wackjob hyperbol.

50,000 rounds of ammo

Though I don't have that much - whats it to you? Doesn't make one a wackjob, perhaps got a good deal buying in bulk.

They’re only whackjobs until we have a total economic collapse or an EMP attack.

Don't come to my house if TSHTF as you would be offended since I am a "whackjob" with 20 year long life food. I also live in hurricane country.

Psst, do you know how many of those “wackjobs” your surrounded by on FR? I’d tread lightly, FRiend.

Do you have a spare tire if you have a flat? That’s just extra weight that uses gas. Do you have health and home insurance? Why pay for health insurance if you’re likely not to be hospitalized. I mean, really, when was the last time you had surgery, yet you’re paying for health insurance every month and it go unused. What’s that life insurance you’re paying on goig to do for you? You won’t be around to enjoy it. Why bother being prepared for an emergency since one like this only comes around once every so often? What a bunch of foolishnish.
