There are an awful lot of FReepers who are afflicted with normalcy bias - the belief that we can get things back to normal through previously accepted and conforming methods. The ballot box has been corrupted and so have the minds of a majority of Americans. Whatever was normal in the past cannot and will not be returned to.

Good point. Conservatives (and most Republicans) always make the mistake of assuming that the other side will play by the rules, be fair, tell the truth, and lose gracefully. They never learn.

I beg to differ. As Glenn Reynolds says (Of Instapundit) "What cannot continue, will not continue." I regard "normal" as being defined by God and Nature. We are currently experiencing an aberration, one which cannot be sustained. It will eventually break, and eventually we will return to normallacy.

At least someone fully understands what the situation really is.

And for the record regarding the Birther issue - non-starter.

I believe Obama is the son of Frank Marshall Davis, and was indeed born in this country - but a conspiracy to keep that quiet has existed from the start by the Dunham’s. That is the reason his birth certificate is a forgery. It was probably originally listed as ‘father unknown’. Ann Dunham’s marriage to Hussein Obama was window dressing.

But back to the original reply - the ballot box is useless in national contests - we suffered a coup in 2008 and Marxists NEVER leave power and always rig their permanent rule to appear as if the people chose them.

In the past few years I have seen that the Normalcy Bias is a force much more powerful than I ever imagined that it was! It impacts so many people in profoundly deep ways. Aside from the overall lowered intelligence and utter distraction of a vast amount of the populace, the Normalcy Bias causes a great deal of the rest of society (those that could be accurately described as reasonably well-informed and gifted with a fair amount of common sense and intelligence) to simply not “see” what is going on around them. I believe that it operates mainly on a sub- or semi-conscious level, but is powerful enough to remain active at the conscious level (especially if it is not persistently probed and challenged).

A germane and recent example was the large number of folks that pinned their “hopes” on the election of Romney. If you pressed and probed these folks (and I did a fair amount of it) on the root causes and scope of the real problems that we face, they proved that they knew better than to believe that there would be any substantive and fundamental correction under a Romney administration and a full GOP house and senate. (I could see it in their faces even if they struggled to mouth an answer to the contrary!) Yet, almost all of them persisted in their belief that “come November 6, things are going to get better!”

The good news (if you can call it that) is that since Romney wasn't elected, the Normalcy Bias (which offered some sense of an “easier, softer way” to turn things around) has lost some of its sway with some of these folks. I've had a few folks tell me, “man, we're really screwed now, aren't we?!” since November 7. The Romney loss (most likely due to election theft/fraud) has served as a bucket of cold water thrown into their faces.

But, the Normalcy Bias is very strong and runs deep, soon many of these same folks will be pinning their hopes on a GOP Senate in 2014 and a new saviour for 2016, even as things crumble and disintegrate even more rapidly all around them. I believe that it takes acute and lasting shocks at a very personal level to break (or at least weaken) the bonds of the Normalcy Bias. For far too many, those shocks will be hitting home all too soon.
