Do you know of any good organizations located in NJ to donate money for the victims of Sandy? Or maybe have first-hand knowledge of a family that needs help getting back on their feet?

For starters, the American Red Cross has been doing a lot. Also NJHelps at www.njhelps.org, or United Way’s Sandy relief www.UWSandyRecovery.org.

I’m not real clear on what’s going on in NY for them.

My boss has cousins in the Rockaway Beach area of Queens/Long Island and he said they told him FEMA is ignoring anyone who has “flood insurance” with the thought that if your “flood insurance” will pay you, you won’t need FEMA. On the other hand, if you don’t have “flood insurance” FEMA is handing out standard-issue checks for $34,000 on the spot, whether your damage is more or less.
