Pole at the Austin GP will be 1:37.53

That is the calculation made using OptimumLap simulation software by OptimumG a vehicle dynamics consulting and data acquisition company based in Colorado and boasting a client list that reads like a who's who of international racing and automobile manufacturing.

Watched both practices today. Very good. I don't play arcade-y type games, so I've yet to drive the COTA (a friend is working on a conversion for RACE 07). I have watched a few videos, though. I can tell you that lack of visual cues along the race track make it very difficult in determining brake points.

T1 is an obvious one, being at the brow of a hill, but the track is so open (good for spectators) it is hard to learn the track quickly, but I guess that's why the drivers are called "professionals", huh?

I hope to see a good race Sunday. Vettel against Alonso. Would love to see a good battle to the finish between those two!

Watched Speed, track looks pretty sporty, but wish they would have made it downhill at the end of the straight instead of uphill (Road Atlanta-esque).

Angling for a shot at working the MotoGP depending on who they have as staffing agent for the grunts.

Some how I don't think that the estimate took into consideration Red Bull and Vettel.......

damn straight!!! it should run clockwise and downhill to the finish... that would be one hell of a rush coming out of the last turn and diving down that hill

best of luck with the Moto-GP

The main straight at Mid-Ohio goes sharply downhill at the end. After a couple of laps it was always a thrill pumping up the pedal down the straight and wondering how much brake there would be.

Track is nice, but whoever is in charge of the race here is clueless. Nothing marked to get in/out, huge lines everywhere, GA sections are unseeded/unsoded. Not sure if the cash-only at all of the booths is just F1 or if they had satellite issues, but was not hearing many good things today - except for people saying it’ll get better because it’s the first day (but of course - also the day with the fewest people).

I’m sure it’s a huge challenge to open up a built from scratch facility with your biggest event. All your working grunts are pretty much neophytes.

When they had F-1 at Indy it was small potatoes, relatively, 100k people vs 250k for the 500.

I know at Kentucky last year they had Sprint Cup for the first time, they had 10 yrs of experience with smaller crowds (30K for Indy and Nationwide) when the 100k showed up it was still a disaster.

Local liberal rag says AT&T is “helping” with the credit card issues - http://www.statesman.com/blogs/content/shared-gen/blogs/austin/racing/entries/2012/11/17/circuit_officials_working_to_f.html/?cxntfid=blogs_formula_austin

Austin has been clueless about managing traffic for decades, no surprise there. Eventually they’ll figure it out. Hope you have a nice time while you’re here.

Wow. Ferrari in full strategy mode. Intentionally bumped Massa down 5 places so Alonso can start on the clean side of the grid.

Like they say...all’s fair in love and war...and F1.
