best program for touring the virtual universe by far though, is
Celestia. Once you get used to the controls, you can go almost anywhere in the universe. It is a great program to give children (and adults for that matter) a sense of the immense size of the universe. I can't recommend this program enough. It helps a
lot if you've got a reasonably fast computer and graphics card for smoother operation. There are also a bunch of geeks who have way too much time on their hands who have created some awesome addins, like actual and sci-fi spacecraft, worlds, and environments. Celestia is absolutely free and has native versions for Linux, OSX and MS-Windows.
