I heard recently that a lot of "wealthy" Americans are selling off their wealth. I am not by any means "wealthy" but really, what does that mean? Government wealthy? Own my own home wealthy? Just wondered what FReepers are doing? Selling? Buying?

I’ve been trying to talk my hubby into cashing in our Roths,they would be tax free now, given our age and how long it has been since we added to them. They are not huge and at least we would have some cash at home. Advice appreciated, thanks.

If the SHTF, then the Internet is gone, which means anyone who still owns books such as medical books, engineering books, how-to books, and encyclopedias will be King. The thing is, everyone has been ditching the books they already own and not buying new ones. Everything, and I do mean everything is online now. Think what that means if “online” evaporates.
If you really believe the SHTF, then stockpile books. And maps. Then surround your warehouse with machine guns.
Right now I teach those guys at tech “college”. Feel kind of bad about the loans they are piling up though.

Currency change has been promoted here before. The intent then was to flush out the underground economy. It did not find much public favor so was dropped, this time nobama could care less about public opinion, at least the public with money.
Gold is infinitely divisible. You can melt gold and pay somebody any weight of gold you can cast or scrape off. When you are at the point where dollars are good for nothing but toilet paper and a one-million dollar bill buys dinner, gold becomes money. A lot of people think they can't subdivide a one-ounce gold piece. All you need is a file to scrape off as much weight of gold as you need for any transaction or you can melt the thing down and melt off little bbs of gold for daily transactions like a tank of gas. The least of my worries would be how to pay somebody their 1/100th ounce of gold.
