Uh, Rick Santorum won TWO TERMS in the Senate for the State of PA, or did you miss that?

He was in 2nd place in the Republican primary races, with NO ONE close behind him, and would have won if

Although the 18th District was redrawn for the 1992 elections, and the new district had a 3:1 ratio of registered Democrats to Republicans, Santorum still won re-election with 61% of the vote.

So, explain to us again how Santorum needs to beat someone? But then, I'll bet you thought Romney was just the perfect candidate, didn't you?
