I heard recently that only 38% of California workers are employed by the private sector, and that only half of those 38% pay taxes.
I cannot remember where I heard the statistics and am having trouble finding any documentation on the Internet. Can any FReepers confirm or deny the stats?
Thanks to anyone who can help me out!
I remember hearing Rush discussing these Calif statistics late last week. Do not know his source, however.
I heard the same statistic on a morning radio show yesterday. Can’t remember the source, unfortunately.
There are taxusers and taxpayers.
Everyone who works for a gov’t entity, whether needed or not, IS a taxuser.... even if they pay taxes.
That's almost impossible to believe, even after 4 years of Barack Obama and Governor Brown.
As to half the privately employed workforce not paying taxes, that actually sounds low to me, since almost everybody employed by government earns enough to have tax liability.
I did a little bit of googling. I found a Gallup Daily Tracking Survey that says 6% of WORKERS in California work for the state (I assume State of California). I also found at same source that 15.3% of surveyed respondents say they are gubmint employees. If you are asking what percentage of the population is working in the private sector and is paying income taxes I bet it is less than 9%. There is a huge percentage of the California population that is in prison, are children, are illegals, and/or on welfare.
And a few who are all the above.
Here are the statistics I’ve found:
37 million people living in California/ US Census
11.8 million employed by the private sector/ The Sacremento Business Journal
2.4 million employed by the public sector/ The Sacremento Bee
Not good numbers.
Third Person, i doubt it
the Bureau of Labor Stats publishes employment by industry for the states, the problem is that part of construction, utilities, education, health is government, but exact fraction is not known. all of gov’t is, of course, gov’t
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/laus.t05.htm
since ALL of construction, education and health plus gov’t is less than 50% of total employment i’d say that the 60+ percent number is wrong
2-3 million not legally in the country
Some federal employees. Plus state, county, special boards and districts.
Thanks... It looks like about a third of the population is employed by the private sector. I don’t know how much of that private sector work is gov’t generated. I looked up the numbers, which I post right before you. Far less than half of the state is employed.
i think you meant 2/3 is private sector employment, 1/3 public sector ?
There's No Denying the Baracka Claus Phenomenon
RUSH: Remember the caller we had in California last week, so upset at what's happening to his state. He was going on and on, "Rush, remember when they passed the lottery out here they promised to pay for education for 25 years." He was listing a bunch of things wrong with the state, and I said, "Sir, the people of that state are voting for it. They are not being fooled. The people of California just voted to raise taxes on themselves." Now, they think they're raising taxes on the rich. But before it's all said and done they're raising taxes on those who still pay taxes.
By the way, the number of people actually paying for California to work is shocking. Somebody sent me a note. There was apparently a roundtable discussion recently, and one of the participants on the roundtable said, "If you count all the living souls in California, including inmates, mentally ill, children, retirees, but don't count state government employees, count everybody but state government employees, 37% of the California population actually works. And of the 37%, only half make enough to pay taxes.
So in California, only 37% are creating anything of value, and of that 37%, only 18% are actually paying taxes to support the system. Is it any wonder then that on November 6th Californians voted to raise taxes on those people. And Mayor Brown's all happy. This tax increase is gonna work because the people voted for this one. They didn't have this one shoved down their throats, and he's right. They're voting for what they're getting. They're not being fooled at all. People of California want what is happening. There's no arguing that, folks. No way, shape, manner, or form. Just like there's no arguing here that we are dealing with this phenomena known as Santa Claus that exists in the Democrat Party. No question about it whatsoever. I told you we're gonna have more Christmas tunes as we get closer to the season highlighting Baracka Claus, and we do.
No, a little less than 1/3 of the total California population is employed by the private sector. 37 mil in state, 11+ mil hired by private sector, 2.5 mil hired by public sector. I’ve come up with these numbers since making my original post... I should have done more research before posting the vanity.
Thank you!
ok, 38% of the total state population are in private employment...
the remaining 62% are not all govt employees (although a lot live off of govt)
