my brother has owned a “Latin” supermarket in San Jose, Ca for the last 25 years... he once told me that his shoppers are willing to spend their money—most of their money—on food... groceries... many of them don’t typically go on vacation or even go out to eat so much... they buy what we might consider specialty foods... in addition, they are willing to pay more at Latin supermarkets because the set-up is a lot like the markets in their home countries... not everyone who shops in these markets are on food stamps...

Close to my home is a small town of Arcadia, Wisconsin. There are some chicken processing plants in the area, and a lot of Mexicans working in those plants. They now have specialty stores catering to the Mexican workers in Arcadia. If I lived around Arcadia, I might do the same.
