Word For The Day, Wednesday, November 21, 2012--Boeotian
;
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day". Boeotian [bee-oh-shuhn]
hear it pronounced
adjective
1. of or pertaining to Boeotia or its inhabitants.
2. dull; obtuse; without cultural refinement.
noun
3. a native or inhabitant of Boeotia.
4. a dull, obtuse person; Philistine.
Etymology: Origin: Boeotian
15901600; Boeoti(a) + -an "ignorant, dull," from Boeotia, district around Thebes in ancient Greece (said to have been so called for its cattle pastures), whose inhabitants were characterized as proverbially dull and countrified by their neighbors, the Athenians. The Boeotians presumably held reciprocal opinions, but their great writers, Plutarch and Pindar, though patriots, are full of praise for Athenian deeds and institutions.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.

Good Morning Class. Welcome to School!
Here is my example with WFTD.
I am struck with the notion that all libs are Boeotian. (That little rhyme should help with the pronunciation.)
No pushing at the door please!

I’m posting via my iPad from an undisclosed location north of Dallas. Get that homework in before the holiday break.

I am heartsick that Col. West conceded to the Boeotian, Insipid, Vapid Murphy.

It's gotta boeotian currents that caused us to drift so far away from the shore.

Boeotian
We boeotian are not culturally unrefined: How many people can burb and sound just like the Chipmunks? Besides if not for the boeotians who would do the styling of women's hair?

The only thing I can conjure up for the word “Boeotian” is that it’s a fitting adjective to describe the aroma emanating from the feminazis who braid their axillary hair.

Excellent link. And, you’re the first to channel Billy Ocean. My son watched me post the Word, and started singing right away.
