Even on the heels of November’s epic losses, the often-beleaguered Massachusetts GOP is heading into anticipated high-profile races with two power players — U.S. Sen. Scott Brown and former gubernatorial candidate Charlie Baker — setting up a potential GOP standoff over who will lead the embattled party in upcoming election showdowns.
“I think that Republicans are depressed with the outcome of the last election, but the good news is we have really strong candidates,” said Richard Tisei, a Wakefield Republican who shared the ticket with Baker in the last gubernatorial election and narrowly lost against U.S. Rep. John Tierney this month. “We have two 800-pound gorillas as far as being able to be extremely competitive in terms of the Senate and the gubernatorial races.”
Bruised Republicans are anticipating a potential double opening in pivotal Massachusetts offices as U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry eyes a post with President Obama’s administration that could mean both a special election next year and a regular election in 2014, while Gov. Deval Patrick has made it clear he is out of the governor’s office in 2014.

Baker and Brown, two completely worthless men who stand for literally nothing. Brown got elected on being the 41st vote against healthcare and then his vote wasn’t necessary so he immediately dropped any allegiance to anything conservative. Charlie Baker didn’t even bother aligning himself with conservatives (much like Mitt Romney in ‘94) in a year when conservatives completely swept the table in down-ballot races, except, in Massachusetts.
Both are milquetoast moderates, but it will never occur to them that their moderation...is why they’re out of office.
At this point, even a RINO would be a blessing but there’s no way I would call him a heavyweight in MA. The voters of MA are idiots, beyond hope. At this point, who cares? We’re doomed.

I respectfully disagree on Brown. He was lib on social issues, but he came through on a lot of things beside health care. He voted no on Kagan, and stuck with the GOP on opposing the various “Buffet Rule” bills, along with the DISCLOSE Act, the so-called Paycheck Fairness Act, and a host of other Reid-Obama tax schemes. He was also a pretty reliable vote when it came to defense issues, IIRC.
Brown was no conservative, but he wasn’t Ted Kennedy or Liz Warren either. I honestly don’t see how we could have done better in Massachusetts.
Brown voted for Dodd-Frank, the stupid START treaty and he thought it was just fine that President Obama just declared a recess in the Senate and appointed several officials. That was enough for me to determine that he didn’t give a damn about his oath.
I don’t fall for the “he’s better than the democrat” argument anymore. I left Brown’s office blank on my ballot two weeks ago (I voted for him the first time) just as I did Charlie Baker’s two years ago. I’ve had enough of their kind. And the republican party is better off without them in office. They only lessen the resistance to the anti-liberty radicals. Brown would have been a Jim Jeffords before long.
