ALL fast approaching or beyond 70, the Rolling Stones are entitled to look a little lived in.

Their 50-year career has taken its toll — as have the booze, the drugs and the groupies.

In fact, it is a wonder they are still standing, let alone rocking and rolling.

Seventy years old and rambling on about things that could only be of interest to a teenager.

It’s kind of funny, no one blinks an eye at a 70 year old jazz guy playing gigs, or even a 70 y/o blues guy.

But a 70 year old rocker?

I’m raising my glass to any 70 year old out there playing gigs in whatever form of music floats the boat.

I forget his exact words but I saw him interviewed regarding the song “Satisfaction.” He said that he thought of it in the middle of the night and decided to put down the beat on tape, so he used an old cassette. Next morning, he awoke with about 30 seconds of the beat and “44 minutes of me snoring.”

The Rolling Stones are arguably the most overrated rock groups ever. You have to be drunk or stoned or both to really get into their crap.

There is a ton of way better stuff than even their peak performances in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Artists and groups which the average teenager today has probably never heard of: Loundon Wainwright III, Jim Stafford, the Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Don McLean, Jim Croche and scores of others I could name without even breaking a sweat.

A list which any Freeper around 50 years old could doubtless expand. All of the foregoing had the sense to retire at their peak. Though, occasionally some of them will do a benefit concert or reunion performance at some intimate venue out of the goodness of their hearts and not the need for fame or adulation.

Yup....can’t agree more....I could add ten bands to your list off the top of my head...

I think you will find most of the older crowd that think they are the end of all things that rock ...are women...

Must be Jagger fish lips or something ...

TIME has NOT been on the Stones side. Their lifestyle has aged them 10+ years older looking than they really are. As from one of their early songs, Its all over NOW!!!
