So the police should finish off all the people they shoot that are still breathing? How long before they end up in jail...

The facts at the scene of the shooting raised questions that had to be answered.

A legitimate - and the only sensible - answer is: "If and when it comes to trial, my attorney will respond to that."

Regards,

This man, whether right or wrong, just talked himself into a whole world of avoidable hurt. As a lawyer friend told me one time during a poker game -

“If you ever are in a situation like a shooting or vehicular homicide then Just Shut The Hell Up!, you have the right to remain silent - USE IT!”

If you are involved in a shooting just give your ID to the police, no matter how justified it was, and tell them you won’t say a word until you speak to your attorney. It may cost a few bucks, but a cop or DA who gets their wires crossed on your story and think you changed it could cost you a whole lot more headaches than the lawyers bill could.

You know there are some sickos on this forum.

After reading the comments and the news story it sure looks to me like the homeowner is a psycho murderer.

Too bad if some here disagree but for executing these kids the old guy crossed all the lines and should get the same penalty as any other murderer.Shooting in self-defense if an intruder approaches is entirely different from executing someone .I despise cops that shoot beyond stopping the threat ;why should a private citizen get to play judge, jury, and executioner?

And for all those who say or think he was right in executing those two and should have hidden the bodies ,I say you are every bit as bad as those law-breakers and criminals you pretend to hate. Committing cold-blooded murder and concealing it are not conservative values. As for the case of the fellow losing his far, over the shotgun -rigged door ,it has long been the case that setting traps for humans is illegal and will defintely get you in trouble .Booby traps are the tools of terrorists and land mines the tools of the military.

Every one who suggests the old guy should have hidden the fact of killing and hidden the bodies is absolutely begging for and deserving of a full investigation ,and maybe property search themselves to see what crimes they are concealing.

Yeh but where is he going to find an attorney who would be able to answer the question about why he didn't call the police on the day of the shooting without cracking a smile.

"Yeh but he was just dying to answer them, particularly the question on why he didn't call the police after he shot them." The best of all times and circumstances <>not to answer, especially when he'd done the super no-no of moving one of the bodies. That's when he really needed to dummy up and get a lawyer. Fundamental good advice for anyone involved in a potential justifiable homicide situation: call your lawyer, call the cops, and don't touch the body. You're stuck with the fact that you shot him, but you don't need to be stuck with anything more.

He did himself no favors there, but the evidence of an execution-style shot would've sunk him even if he'd kept quiet.

In this case his words may help him more than hurt him. It sounds from the way he describes what happened that he didn't consider what he was doing to be a crime. Lack of intent to commit a criminal action could lead to a findng of not guilty by reason of insanity.

I think this guy is going to spend the rest of his life in jail but the story may become rather chaotic as it unfolds in court.

I was struck by the way he gut shot them first rather than going for the center of mass. It seems cruel and perhaps a bit premeditated.

“Gasped for breath.” “100 pound girl.” “Blew her head off.”

No effort to influence here, right?

I agree. This doesn’t sound like self defence. At first yes but once the perp is down? Why you you ever shoot someone under the chin, it reeks of an execution. And last I looked we still have due process, although she was going to die most likely, he sounds like he enjoyed shooting the girl. Sick man!

We’re not talking about police here. We are talking about citizens defending themselves in their own homes.

That does raise a question??? The autopsies might be interesting.

The shot in the hip keeps them from getting up but allows him to interrogate them -- something he might have learned from his years as security officer for the State Department.

He might have kept them alive for who knows how many hours to interrogate them. And when he was finished getting what he could from them, just executed them.

“Gasped for breath.”

I think in the charging document that those are his words.

I was referring to,,,’if they are still breathing, then they are a threat’

That’s what I was thinking too. This is going to be an odd case.

You could assist in this endeavor by dropping a dime on your fellow FReepers, with, say the FBI, being as we need jackboot statist home searches like this much more than punishment for burglars, robbers, thieves and other cuddly little animals.

Yep.

He didn’t shoot them out of fear but out of anger. He was angry about his house having been burglarized before and the stuff they took.

I’d bet that he took time after they were wounded to interrogate them about the whereabouts of his stuff.

And of course after doing that for hours and not calling the police he can’t let them live to talk about it.

Interesting theory.

Since the victims were only dead for two days before he was taken into custody, there may be a wealth of forensic evidence as to the timeline of the wounds.
