Hammerless Revolvers are not a good choice for women, I know several women who don't have the strength in their hand to pull the trigger, (one I know has to use both index fingers to pull the tritter,) or the hand shakes so badly when pulling the trigger that they couldn't hit anything.

The hammer spur anagging when the weapon is drawn is not a valid reason to not carry one. I've carried a .357 Magnyum with a full hammer for over 10 years, it doesn't snag. If the thumb goes on the hammer spur every time it is removed from it's carry location the spur does not catch on anything.

I showed my arthritic father how to put his left hand on top of the slide, and then push the grip forward with the right hand. He cannot hold the gun with his left hand and pull back the slide with his right.

It’s simple, but it works.

“she’s not going to the range every other week, forget the semi-auto.”

Seriously? “Every other week”? Do you have dementia and forget that soon?

A word to the wise: The firearm you have with you is ALWAYS more effective than the one you left at home.

Get the one YOU like, and to heck with everybody else.

“As much as it makes my man-heart cringe, most times a man should not teach his woman to shoot.”

My wife learned from a man just fine. In fact, she loved the class and learned exactly what she was supposed to. This isn’t rocket science or psychology. It’s a how-to class. Don’t over think it.

Roger that. The Ruger LCP is tiny and so convenient for concealed. I have heard big LEOs say that they like this for a personal concealed weapon.

I am going through the same thing with my wife. She has to shoot them both and decide but I am recommending either a Glock G26 or a Kahr CM9 but she is planning on carrying it. I won’t recommend anything less than a 9 mm. There’s a reason, beyond capacity, why police departments quit using .38 Special revolvers. And .380, .32, .25, and .22 are just not enough cartridge for a serious self defense weapon. By the way, I carry a Glock G23 in .40 S&W or a Springfield Armory 1911 in .45 ACP.

.38 special revolver. Easy to clean, easy to shoot and does not require a stiff wrist and elbow to cycle (unlike a semi-auto). Bottomline on barrel length: length doesn’t matteR in a defensive situation because of short distances. A longer barrel may be more fun at the because it will be more accurate at longer distances.

Most important is how well it fits your hand when you shoot.

Google “Wax bullets”
These are used to teach shooters how to draw and shoot in one motion without shooting yourself or someone else.

They are easily made in the microwave but cannot really be used in a semi auto.

Should be “more fun at the range”.

I vote no on the .32 cal.

A better choice would be the Walther PK380. Not the best self-defense weapon but easy to operate and learn how to shoot. It's also ambidextrous. The smaller, lightweight guns are good for concealed/pocket (or purse) carry but not the best thing for a beginner. Learn how to shoot first and then get something better when you can.

Hammerless Smith and Wesson in .38 Special. If you are going to carry get it in titanium, if you are going to keep it for home defense get it in steel. My second choice is the Glock in 9mm in the subcompact size.

Perfect advice. DO NOT go smaller caliber than .38 special unless you absolutely cannot handle it.

On second thought you might want to consider the .38 in aluminum. The few extra ounces might make it more controllable yet still light weight.

My husband bought me a Ruger LCP for Valentines Day. He had a couple of larger weapons that he let me practice with before we went together for our CC class.

All of them were fine, but because the Ruger is so light I carry it all the time in a purse with built in holster. My husband had a Glock that he carried in a belt holster, but he always had to be hitching up his pants, so he got an LCP too.

I like the idea of a laser sight. I now have macular degeneration in my right eye which was the one I was using to sight with in CC class. My husband and son love to shop for me for anything gun related, so I will drop some Christmas hints for the laser.

Steel.

If it's not for concealed carry then yes, steel with a 4-6 inch barrel. (Snub nose is hard to control but great for concealed carry.)

Ruger SP101. .357

Yep, and if the magnums make it hard to control then .38 special +p ammo in that gun will probably be the ticket.

Caswells Shooting Range near Baseline and Stapley in Mesa AZ. I go there to practice. I suggest you walk in and tell them what you need.

All day Tuesdays and Fridays - FREE lane fee and gun rentals for the ladies.

You will have to use their ammo with the free gun rental but their prices are reasonable.

And when you get bored with standard loads you can load your 38 with black powder and shoot the original load for this caliber.

You can also make bullets with hot glue gun glue sticks and shoot primer only loads in the garage.

The older rounds are endlessly entertaining.

The Judge is a pretty impressive and versatile self-defense handgun. It appears to be unique.

Snub nose .38 with a hammer that is buried in the frame so you can’t screw things up too easily.
Then practice with it.
