Thinking about getting a gun.It has to be easy to handle for a lady.Any suggestions welcomed.
Amen.Just found out.
Find you a female trainer. I mean a female who trains other females to shoot because men suck at some things. As much as it makes my man-heart cringe, most times a man should not teach his woman to shoot.
Even though I know I am the exception to that rule ;)
More and more women are getting guns, so there is finally some feedback of their opinions.
1) Often they begin wanting a small gun, wanting ease of use and small enough to not be a hassle carrying around.
2) However, after practice a lot of women get a new philosophy of wanting the largest and most powerful gun they can handle.
This seems to indicate that the best way of selecting a gun for yourself is to “test drive a bunch”. Set aside range time and work your way from small guns to large guns, firing a bunch of rounds through each.
In this case you want to embrace the notion of “familiarity breeds contempt”, to lose the awe of firing a new gun, so that you become more and more objective.
Try to avoid anyone at the range with you who wants to give you a sales pitch about their favorite gun. This is about you, and your needs.
My wife carries a Dan Wesson 15-2 .357 with a 2.5” barrel.
She started with a Colt pocket pistol .25 semi but outgrew that quickly.
Shotguns hurt my arm.
Like that.
You have to let me know where you find one of those. I assume they are scarce by the fall off in sammich making abilities by the fairer sex..

...oh darn, that's what you meant, never mind..
I am small and not very strong.
What kind of gun would be best for me?
I like the way that looks.Guess I have to try one on for size.
Lady smith and wesson airtight .38.
Has anyone ever done a target study contrasting a 2 inch or even 1 inch barrel .38 special with laser vs. 4-6” barrel with no laser? My understanding of the reason for the longer barrel is higher accuracy. If that is accomplished with a simple laser, it is a much lighter & smaller carry.
Matthew, you rascal, I worded that as careful as I could and you still found a way to make me read it again and make sure.
I used to train females, then I got married. Now I understand “a man chases a woman until she catches him.”
Your too cute.I guess you tried and failed.Your Hon understands.I have a couple cops that can help me.I am going to have a long night cause my husband is not due back till tom.The police are around but if I had a gun I would feel safer.
I just remembered a couple of family stories.
My Great Aunt ran a bar. She was an oddball as our family is full of Southern Baptist preachers and hardly anyone in our family even drinks. Anyway my Father was fond of her and she was a tough old bird. She once killed an attacker in her place of business with a Smith & Wesson triple lock revolver in .44 special.
That is a large heavy gun but now that I think about it, she had good gun sense. My Grandfather also killed a guy in a gunfight. The guy started shooting at Grandpa with a revolver and he returned fire with a Winchester model 92 in 32-20. The jury found him guilty of manslaughter and he was sentenced to 20 years at Raiford. Fortunately the Governor realized an injustice had been done and gave him a full pardon.
The moral of the story is that a large revolver chambered for a large but mild kicking round is great indoors.
Outside a rifle is way better than a revolver.
Okay, this maybe the Ruger LCP I also recommended would be good, but it is a very light weight, small pistol. Another possibility, which is a little larger, but still fairly small and female friendly (my wife's personal weapon and she loves it) is a Sig P232, 7 + 1, in 380 caliber.
Sounds like something we can do. Have both. (2” .38 Rossi and 4” .38 Rossi). I was thinking about getting one of those grip laser’s for the wife’s carry (pictured one like it above).
The thing about the laser, however, is much faster target acquisition in high stress situations. You aren’t dealing with much distance when talking about home or personal defense situation, 15 yards max with the probability of it being much closer so I think except for range play, the increased accuracy of the 4” is moot.
