Of course (to complete the thought), Deuteronomy 22 goes on to address the virgin damsel that is not betrothed:
“27 For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

As us “crazy Bible clingers” know, with the way the Bible addresses sexual morality, the fornication, abortion and government welfare that we see today are avoided. And rape becomes a very infrequent occurrence. Basically, if there is a pregnancy, there is either a marriage or a death sentence.
Old timers will frequently recount situations where the woman’s father sat the couple down and explains that they will be married. I heard one just recently that was a classic, with the gathering at the kitchen table, the head of the househod making the declaration then proceeding to give them a house to start out in.

To my knowledge the Bible never really address how to deal with a man who rapes another man.
Unless you look at that case in Sodom and Gomorrah and the men trying to rape other “men” just happen to be trying to rape angels. Then that blindness trick really comes in handy.

we have to wonde if the “hazing charges” were made only because harsher charges - like rape - were not possible under Illionois law for juveniles, or if the prosecutors were simply being rediculously lax in their responsibilities

Probably there were some changes made in the staff or the policy at that time that let this happen.
Male on male rape is a dominance thing, sort of in the “Lord of the Flies” category.
That said, while we’ve been talking about the boys who were raped, I wonder how the older boys who were encouraged to rape them are feeling about themselves right now.
I think they should have been charged with something a lot more than “hazing,” in any case, and their coaches should be looking at long, long prison sentences for setting this up.
Yeah, I’ll never quite understand it, or why so many people seem to favor even milder versions of it.
