Three teenage boys have been charged with the murder of a 17-year-old girl who was shot in the head while the group were robbing summer homes - despite none of them firing the gun which killed her.
Scott Bryd, Dillon Tyree and Daniel Parnell, all 18, were indicted on felony murder charges on Wednesday by a grand jury after Summer Moody's death.
Miss Moody was fatally injured after homeowners fired warning shots on Gravine Island, Alabama when they saw the group robbing cabins around 4am on April 15.
She died in hospital ten days later. Byrd, Tyree and Parnell are being held in the Baldwin County Corrections Center.
No charges were filed against the men who fired the shots in the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, a remote fishing camp.
William 'Nick' Hearn, Larry Dean Duncan and Lonnie W. Davison faced no charges because the shooting was deemed accidental by the district attorney.
The three men were working nearby on April 15 when they heard suspicious sounds coming from homes nearby. The three got in a boat and went to investigate.

That’s a heck of a warning.
She called the tune, she paid the piper.
I dont believe in firing warning shots. If you have cause to shoot then shoot center mass.
Sad, but well-publicized ‘events’ like this will REALLY make teens think hard about robbing people for kicks. I grew up in blue state and we never worried about some guy coming out with a gun (no, I didn’t steal from residences or cars, but most of my friends did).
It’s one thing to be chased by an angry homeowner, or a cop (who is usually trained well enough not to shoot) - but I suspect that most people will think harder if that homeowner has a gun.
This isn’t MA or CA, this is Alabama. It’s no secret that many, many, people own guns (probably a majority of whites, maybe a majority of blacks too). It is up to the PARENTS to explain that to their little brats. In this case, it looks like they came up short - but now parents can print out and post this article.
“I dont believe in firing warning shots. If you have cause to shoot then shoot center mass.”
Agree. Certainly for self-defense, that’s rule number 2 (rule number 1 is to ALWAYS be the first one to call 911). In this case the shooters are very lucky to have not been charged - and most likely it’s because there’s no racial angle to it (as I understand it). It’s a risky move, doing what they did - but it really will hit home with other teens that may be prone to trying a stunt like this.

Always best to have a target.
Surprising they'd let the shooters off after they admitted they weren't actually defending themselves or their property. Wouldn't want those guys in my neighborhood at all ~ we have some embassy folks here and I've seen them carry their automatic weapons in and out of their homes ~ I do not want them encouraged to return defensive fire ~ ever!
I dont mind having neighbors who will help protect my property when I am away.
I just dont believe in warning shots.
Life is due to change, ass the Parasites are in charge under Obama.
My prediction is that this will appear on signs across America:
Due to the increase in the price of ammunition, there will be no warning shot.
Your understanding is appreciated.
There is no right to steal.
True. However, my wife came home one day and when she stepped in, she noticed the back door had been kicked in. She immediately stepped out and drew her gun from her purse and walked around the house at a distance to see if anyone was still there. When she finally stepped in, she found the blinds in the bedroom pulled aside where they evidently heard/saw her pulling up and then beat feet. She must have come home before they got a chance to get started because nothing else was disturbed. She was so mad she stepped out and fired a shot into the ground and hollered that if they came back, they would be bleeding on the ground. Our house is in a wooded area and they must have been in the woods nearby because there was no car involved. Our neighbor had been broken into the same day and had a lot of stuff stolen/destroyed. We assume they heard the shot and understood because our neighbor got hit again the next week but we were left alone. Not a warning shot per se, but it served the purpose to let them know that even the woman of the house was armed and willing to squeeze one off...
'bama is different.
Haven't figured out this shoot into the dirt deal ~ were these guys drinking or smoking?
Three charming Cro-mags. Well, this being Alabama, they will likely have many years to ponder the error of their ways, unlike the girl, who just had some chlorine added to her gene pool.
Does the girl not share responsibility? She chose to date a criminal and be friends with criminals. She chose to go rob the house. What's her criminal history? If it weren't for her own actions, she would still be alive.
One of my (60's) HS school mates in Ala. kept something like one of these under his bed. (minus the stand):
Yep. I’d bet it was quite effective.
Nice. Plus, if the ATF ever gave him trouble, well, “it’s an antique”.
Somehow, I recall he was more concerned about his Dad.
