I'm sure most of us have been scammed at least once. A lot of "homeless" are mentally ill or substance abusers. Working with them can be extremely frustrating as you invest a lot of yourself and often don't see much progress or fruit come to bear. There are a lot of good organizations that help the "working poor", many who truly want to better their situation and become self-reliant. I would urge you look for these types of organizations and become involved not only with financial donations but by becoming a mentor to someone who wants a better life.

There are plenty of organizations such as The Salvation Army who provide meals, shelter and clothing to "the needy" but less attention is given to smaller organizations who are down in the trenches making a big difference one heart at a time.

Might I add that the Salvation Army is a great org to give to this time of year....low overhead as far as Admin costs so the money goes to the actual folks in need.....Goodwill on the other hand, has huge overhead and high salaries...I ought to know, my idiot brother works for GW!
