Some need coaxing, some jump right on Santa's lap and others simply wag their tails.
Then there are the ones who get so excited they plant wet kisses on Santa's face.
The Santa at Mayfair mall takes it all in stride, regardless of whether he's posing with a Doberman or Shih Tzu, German shepherd or Chihuahua.
Monday nights through Dec. 17, pet owners can bring their cats and dogs to the Wauwatosa mall for pictures with Santa. It's proven so popular that the mall has increased the number of nights from two a few years ago to five this year. Owners patiently wait in line with their leashed charges and choose from the same photo packages offered to parents with children.
Fortunately, Mayfair's Santa, Jeff Pockat, is not allergic to animals. He doesn't need padding or a fake beard - Pockat hasn't shaved since 1981 - and he's worked as a department store Santa for seven years, the last three at Mayfair.
Posing for photos with pets is much the same as with children. Both can be wiggly, nervous and scared or just look perplexed to see an adult next to a camera waving a toy to get their attention.
"I love it. It's fun. I don't have dogs and cats at home because I travel too much," said Pockat. "But this gives me a chance to play with animals."

In red velvet pants, black boots, white linen shirt and red suspenders, Pockat sat on a large green velvet chair this week occasionally getting up when large dogs, who apparently were used to clambering on furniture at home or figured they'd get a free pass just this once, jumped up on Santa's throne.

Dog wreaked horrible vengeance on Santa hat seconds later.
Dog is not a very cooperative holiday photo prop.

I LOVE this picture! No one and I mean NO ONE is going to touch Santa. I swear the doggies look like they are smiling!
Well...in *some* dog’s case, it would mean *not* having consumed more than 2 pounds of rocks per year.
